Look Mom, I can play!
What a bloody performance.

I thought I would buy the new 4.3 version of fxpansion, only ever having had the demo version before.

First problem (after filling in all the fields in the Cakey web site:mad: ) was that Cakewalk can't sell to the Eurpopean Public direct, they have to go to their local distributor.

Okay, so I then went online to 12 tones local distributor in the UK, who didn't take Amex, my preferred method of payment:(

So, after again filling in the purchase form, I can't download the software, they supply version 3.3 by post:eek: ....and then I register the product and upgrade to 4.3 after installing and running it first;)

But they shipped it overnight so I got it this morning.

But guess what? It kept crashing my machine. So I kept uninstalling all my music programmes until I just about had HS2002 and not a lot else and even then it just about managed to get to the end of its scan with about 20 error messages. I was not impressed.

So then I decide to go for the "free upgrade". First of all, the Cakey site refused to acknowledge my product serial number on the fxpansion special registration page, so I am left not being able to upgrade. And as Cakey support isn't done by phone (I searched and couldn't find any telephone support numbers.), I am left waiting until mid afternoon Monday UK time before I can telephone to register my product so I get my upgrade.

Why can't these companies offer service that is joined up? Grrr

And even then, I am not confident that the upgrade will work smoothly.:(

I hear ya, Paul... ;)
It's even harder in Indoland. I need to manualy fill the included form and send them the papper. Took almost a month to register my old Cwpa 9...

It took me almost three months before I decide to register my Sonar 2 XL. Why don't they make it easier like Syntrilium (CoolEdit) ? Anyway, I never had a need to upgrade anything anymore, unless really necessary (or easy) :(

You should have a word with moskus in Europe... he is the representative guy, right ? :D

No, he lives in Norway, not part of Europe or the EEC. It's Scandinavia. Part of the great frozen North tundra wastelands:D

We're part of Europe (UK don't own it all, you know ;), but EU/EEC can buuuuuuuurn... :D

After getting the upgrade sorted put with Fxpansion/Cakewalks local UK distributor, the whole thing is now working rock solid. The real test will come when I use FLoops.

Anyway, version 4.3 seems to be a winner:D

Why would I want to do that? It now works, and is endorsed by Cakewalk.

well the newer version doesn't work with cakewalk and EXSP24...so the decision was a no brainer for me...either get rid of sonar and learn cubase or something(yea right) can't use EXSP24(yea right) or use another wrapper...ding ding ding...YMMV

Have you written to Cakewalk about that? Maybe it's a known bug or something. It might get solved in a future release.

Angus F. Hewlett, the guy who wrote the software for fxpansion is very helpful at replying to and fixing bugs. I posted an email to him last Saturday and he replied on Sunday...twice!

So I would support Moskus's suggestion and email him.;)

Cakewalk is aware of the problems that "their" (not the latest FXpansion) wrapper has with other programs. It crashes ACID and SF when you close it after using a VST effect. I know that several people have written them (I hope others will as well) and that it will be fixed in the next update. At the moment, Cakewalk seems to be struggling with effects as the newest Sonic Foundry effects (from the latest "bug fix" updates to their programs) don't work in Sonar and according to another forum, Sonar is working on the problem (to be corrected in 2.3).

Take Care

Sorry but I don't understand this statement.

As I understand it, Cakewalk have bought the VST Wrapper software from fxpansion and have up issued it to 4.3. But under the terms of the sale agreement, fxpansion cannot sell it any more.

The "latest" wrapper from fxpansion WAS the version 3.3 (?) but it is no longer available.

So there is only one version of the wrapper available....Cakewalks. Or have I got it all wrong?

i emailed them no response....who care now anyway directixer works for me now so thats what i use...

There will be a "Sonar 2.3"? When do we see Sonar 3, dammit?

F**k me! A post from someone at Cakewalk:eek: In two years on the BBS I have never known this before.

Thank you AW. Much appreciated. :D
