I am planning on building a studio in my single garage. The only problem is that my Garage is connected to the side of my house and the side of my neighbours house. I have displayed the problem in the attached picture.

The dimensions of the Garage are (L) 19.8ft x (W) 10.53ft x (H) 7.3ft, and i was thinking of basing the design on the Garage studio design on SAE. All that would be needed is a live room and a control room.

The thing is, it needs to be Isolated from the neighbours house and from my house, and the outside. What would be the best design for Isolation, and for getting a good sound inside the rooms??

thanks

Dave

If the garage is concrete, then you're ahead of the game, and just need to seal it well for sound isolation.

If not, you need to use the thickest, most dense materials you can find.

Then follow the SAE design you're considering and you should be in excellent shape.

The thing is, the side walls are just the house walls that would have been there even if the garage wasnt. SO essentially, the only things that were actually built we're the front (which is almost all a metal garage door), the rear which is standard reddish house brick with a wooden door, and the roof.

So really i need to do quite a lot of Isolation from the Adjoining houses and from the outside. What would be a good way of Isolating the sound in this room??

thanks

Brick coated with rigid fiberglass would be a good start. Dense materials block sound better than softer materials.

Then go to www.johnlsayers.com and look up his garage designs, and treat accordingly as if its concrete.

Good luck!
