Full Circle 4 Camels Pt 3

Wasn't expecting the horn solo, it worked pretty good though. I haven't heard your first 2 mixes and I hope i'm not repeating what anyone else said but, it sounds like your voice and rythmn guitar are fighting for space. If you've tried panning the guitar then, I'm not sure what the solution is. Not a bad tune though.

Hey RayC - just getting to this latest mix - been working today on a busy project that was poorly planned  and is now overdue.....

This mix is really getting close completion IMHO.....

Nice thump on the bass.

Percussion adds a whole bunch of color to the song - cool....
Panning is ok as real drums are panned as well.

Vocals could use a bit more volume to bring them more to the forefront. They start out as fairly clear but fade a bit as the songs progresses.

Other than that this mix is nicely rounded out, levels and eq-wise.

Thanks for posting the lyrics too!

:D :) :D :)

Sounding Better to me! It's a cool song and sound.
two things though. There is something funky going on with the drums just after the begining of the horn solo. It sounds like a timing problem with the drums. It's like they drag for a couple messures until they wrap back around and are in time again? It's hard to explain.

Other than that the vocals are still a bit too low under the guitar. The tones sound good. I think I would try pulling the guitar down 2db or so and see where it's at. Could take pushing the vocals up a hair too.

Shame to have the vocals be as low in the mix as they are with the lyrical content of the song.

Gerry, thanks for the suggestions. Hopefully this one is closer - still a little worried about the ride cymbal though.
Below are the amended lyrics. the sections I had wrongly transcribed are in bold italics.
Freud,
The drumming you mention is a hiccough created by Roland the drum machine - it does things like that occasionally - I'm currently looking at splicing in a piece to cover that but am nervous about the entire timing going out as a result.
Ray J,
Yeah - I have tried but there are a few more strings that can be strung on the bow before I shug in resignation. thanks for the direction.

Full Circle
The razor’s edge is getting even finer
You always try to walk the middle line
Swapping baubles for a country
The gaudy trinkets lose their shine
Smooth the pillow, spread the blanket
Move the trouble makers out of town
Dreary nightmares on the outskirts
Visions flee from the people’s mind
Dreary nightmares on the outskirts
Visions flee from
But is it better to live
& get your spirit from a bottle
Or is it better to die,
Let your spilt blood feed the ground?
Is it better to live,
Shield you hope just like a candle,
Waiting for full circle
As time turns back the tide?
Bitter struggles on the skyline
The clear sky flows through the bloodshot tears.
The fights were long & draining
Warriors have long time broke their spears
Harsh separation from their mother
Breathing in a brave new home
Seems there’s no future in the future
And sparks of angst fly from the stone
Seems there’s no future in the future
The brave new world has tried & failed
But is it better to live
& get your spirit from a bottle
Or is it better to die,
Let your spilt blood feed the ground?
Is it better to live,
Shield you hope just like a candle,
Waiting for full circle
As time turns back the tide?
What’s a nation?
What’s a country?
Is there a choice anyway?
All the hope of conquered peoples
Have dried up & blown away.
Hissalik & Maralinga
Muaroua, Passenchdale

Once more the country’s on a platter
To new logos we’ll all be nailed
Once more the country’s on a platter
The brave new world has tried & failed
So is it better to live
& get your spirit from a bottle
Or is it better to die,
Let your spilt blood feed the ground?
Is it better to live,
Shield you hope just like a candle,
Waiting for full circle
As time turns back the tide?

Hey rayc,
The only nit I can really pick is that the vocals are just a tad low in volume as opposed to the guitar.
Maybe the cymbals could come up in volume ever so slightly as well.
I like the thump and fullness of the kick, and upon my second listen I quite like the uniquness of the guitar tone you have dialled in here rayc.

Nice work rayc, you have a very original style and sound to your tunes which is a good thing! :)

Gorty :)

I've already said I love your style, and this is no exception. You're probably sick of hearing suggestions on eq-ing your voice, but to me it seems pretty obvious that if you cut some of the low mids, it would cut through better. I'd cut everything below about 150-200hz and then scoop out something around 300-450hz a little bit. Everything else sounds cool and I canhear the vocals better on this than before. Great tune, love the hirn solo.

Just listened on some nice "flat" headphones. It sounds more balanced. Sounds very good! I wil have to listen on my monitors later when the wife wakes up.

I can tell I like the mix alot more than the first version I listened to. Like I said more balanced. Great job!

I do still hear what sounds like the drums dragging in places in the horn part. I may be obsessing though. I should save that for my own songs ;)

Got to run.

It's not your imagination...At a certain point in the solo, the drums seem to fall off-time for a few bars...But they come back pretty quick.

Ya, the way I record it would be a easy fix. But I don't know if there is midi involved. When it comes to midi I am worthless. If it could be converted to audio and the bpm matched cakewalk its a stroll in the park from there.
Cutt.... paste.

Glad to know it's not in my head;)

Kick sounds pretty good, but some of the other percussion seems hard to hear for me. Bass guitar might be able to come up a little bit.....it's heard, but is underneath the guitar somewhat. I think if you even the levels out with the guitar more, it will all gel better.

Sounding really good though...just needs a bit more tweaking.

Latest mix sounds pretty good. The level on the vocals is getting better (in my headphones). Might follow up on Dogman's suggestion - you can never have too much bass guitar (ok maybe you can :D )

Maybe play around with the eq now on vocals and guitar.

Lots of good suggestions from Rami and Tim to try.

On my mixer I set the mid sweep to about 1.5Khz (roughly) on both the guitars and the vocals then cut the mids about 3-4 db on guitar and raise the same amount on the vocals. It seems to let the vocals cut through a bit that way.

Just fiddling on WMP it seems to do the trick along with a slight boost at 250Hz.

You may even be able to leave the guitar as is and just boost the vocals in those ranges....

:) :D :) :D

Every time I have tried to listen to this song today, it just keeps buffering and buffering. I see that everyone else has been able to listen. I don't know why the player is doing that with me.

I will keep trying off and on tonight. I really want to hear this!! :)

Still trying off and on ray....it is almost 8 pm here is Missouri...Been buffering now for 5 minutes now. :(

Hi RayC, I'm listening to this fresh, haven't heard the other mixes or read anything else in this thread.
The rhythm guitar is excellent IMO.
Vox could be a little clearer.
Songwriting is excellent too.
Is that tambourine in there? Nice touch to differentiate the chorus, could be a little thicker I guess. Almost sounds like a click.
Definitely your style, fits right in with your stuff.
Sax is great, maybe a bit loud. Or maybe just right... either way, since it's a solo I think you should match the vox volume with the sax volume.
Cool track man, I'd love to hear more sax in there too, maybe in the last choruses outro.
Good listen ;)

I wonder why I can't get a listen and everyone else can? I have been listening to other's soundclick songs!! :(

Would I offer if I wasn't? Ya I have it downloaded just for you;) Just pm me your email.

Sorry I didn't see your reply earlier. I've been working on something.
I'll try to check my email before I go to bed. If your email address is in a PM I will shoot it to you. Listening too it right now. It's quite cool! Go and read the lyrics when you listen.
