I'm needing an SM57 and I have two SM58's. I used to have three of each but I was stupid and sold them all because I wasn't into recording at the time. I only did live stuff.

Anyway, my SM58 I have up is in great condition. I would like an equally great condition SM57 to replace it.

Straight up trade. PM ME!

Just take off the ball and it's a 57. They have the same guts.

You just had to come in here and make me look stupid, didn't you?

Without some sort of windscreen, would that cause problems?

No problems, done it many times. Just be careful with it, throw a popfilter in front if you need to.

i guess you could do that..

but i know what you are thinking- its weird!! something feels out of place when you do that right??!

plus, i wouldnt want to hit it with a stray drumstick without the windscreen on it. just because it's tough on the outside doesnt mean its as strong on the inside.

If you are using it on a snare, don't take the ball off. The only difference between the 57 and 58 is how close you can get to the diaphragm. The only reason to take the ball off of the 58 is to get the extreme proximity effect by getting the extra half inch closer to the diaphragm.

That and the windscreen right? For moisture?

I mean the 58 has some windscreen behind grill in the ball and the 57 just has the grill... right?

(I wish I was at home right now to check)

There is just a thin piece of foam inside the ball. It doesn't do much.
