I have 2 M260 and they both need new ribbons. These mics are a great deal for the tech savvy people of home recording. The mics are made in West Germany prior to 1989. The mics go for 450 new! 125 each or 200 for the pair.

I said 125 each or 200 for the pair. But perhaps I should go lower. Not really certain the value of a ribbon mic that needs to be re ribboned.

Are the ribbons actually torn or do they just need to be retensioned?

does that mean they are not fixable?

They'll need to be replaced. Not such a huge deal, except that Beyer (and Sennheiser too) are not the most helpful companies in this respect. You'll likely have an easier time going to an independant - or at least, smaller mic repair person/company.

The mics are now in York awaiting repair.

I wanted to say a big thanks to Josh (JG96) - a friendly and honest chap and a great guy to deal with. Recommended!

Great Stewart.

Maybe you could post the progress in the DIY, Mods, and Homebrew thread.

Glad those mics got to you! For a bit I was afraid they were lost in the mail. I too would like to see the progress on these mics.
