Fruity Loops Sample Question

The majority of my recording consists of voice and acoustic guitar but eventually I would like to try and add some drums and bass. I can play the drums a little but I don't see myself acquiring a set in the near future so I plan to use a software based drum machine. I have played around with the demo of Fruity Loops and I find it pretty easy to use. However, as some others have noted, the samples that come with it are pretty useless. I have searched for acceptable samples and found some that weren't bad but still not as good as I would like. Then I recently saw an article on a webpage about Clavia offering downloadable samples for their ddrum kit. I checked out the page and downloaded some samples and was very pleased with the quality. The only problem is I don't know about how to get them into Fruity Loops. The samples are midi files which contain a sequence from a particular drum. I figure that I can use their ddrum4tool and play the drums and record the sounds in cakewalk. Then I can edit it so that it is just a single beat of the drum and input that into fruity loops. I'm not quite sure how to go about doing that or if that is the best way to go about it. Should I run a cable from my soundcard's output to the input and record that way or is their a way to set the card's output as my input in cakewalk and not use a cable at all? If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I'd love to hear them. Better yet, if anyone likes the samples and wants to do this work themselves and then send them to me that would be great ;). Also if there are any better samples out there that are cheap (i.e. free), I'd love to get ahold of them.

Well, *cough*, just so you know, the ddrum ones aren't free. They are intended for ddrum users only, and thats why there are in such a weird format. :/

Been there done that! hehehe

Isn't it great to rip the system off instead of it ripping you off for a change. I've made some of the samples into zip files ages ago and made them available to everyone...

...and here are some non-ddrums dmcsilva posted ages ago https://homerecording.com/ubb/Forum24/HTML/000024.html

Both are on juston so you'll probably have to be patient trying to get them.

I use bits and pieces from both sets and have been able to build a pretty good sounding kit.

It seems as if they've added some new ddrum samples since I've been there last...if I get time I'll make some more zip files...can't guarentee anything though. It's pretty simple to do... so give it a go yourself if you wanna

Except of course, you are not ripping of any "system" you are ripping off the guys at Clavia, which are a bunch of guys that creates these great instruments because they think its fun, and because they love music.

Just so you know what you are doing.

i listen for songs with one bar of drums on their own then rip it and edit my own bars. There's a program called Beatcalc where you can put in one bar and it will tell you what tempo it's at - Shania Twain has couple of tracks that start with just drums - I got a half bar - ie kick snare - and another track gave me a good kick sample - I've just done a track with her drums for fum I should put an MP3 up on my site with it - it was recorded using my monitor (proview) mike as that's all I've got at the moment cos I'm in limbo - I'll do it I'l be bck to edit this an give you the link
