from vintage synth to midi on computer?

i was thinking of about getting a casio CZ1000 and it has midi capabilities. i also have a sony vaio laptop with linux and pretty much nothing on the harddrive and i have about 18 gigs left. My question is how can i get my keyboard to my computer, and how can i get sweet sounds transfered to it? also can i save the sounds on my keyboard and not need the computer to play it?
any gear suggestions are welcome, thank you!

If your using an old keyboard you should buy an interface with the same inputs and outputs as your keyboard then you record from you vintage keyboard. I'm not totally sure if you can transfer files back into your old keyboard. Im not even sure vintage keyboards have memory.
