This was handed to my son (sophmore in highschool) in the hallway one day with the instruction to make copies and pass it on...

He said he had no clue who the kid was who handed it to him, but the hub-bub around the school was it was a sort of informal protest/petition thing (Spelling and grammar reproduced as it is on the paper):

"American Idiots"

Congratulations America, You have succeeded in destroying the rock/grunge era I have grown to love. You somehow found a way to moralize a music scene that mostly promotes one group of the social society. It sickens me the way your lyrics find a way to opening us, the youth, to a poor system of self expression. It is an ongoing war of words, it never stops. The rock I have found through this charade people call American music has become so commercialized that I had to find a way to ACDC and Guns and Roses. Evidently people had the same idea, making ACDC and G&R as mainstream as present Rock and Roll. No offense to Angus and Axel.

This left me between a rock and a hard place. On one hand I could embrace the conventional flow of MTV's Rock scene, or I could look to the 90's grunge scene for inspirations. The answer was very, very simple to me.

Through the next year or so I was head-banging to Man in a Box, Smells Like Teen Spirit, In Bloom, Black Hole Sun, Rooster, and so many other classic city of rain tunes. Although the era faded, I love it to this day. But like the grunge era faded, so did my interest in it. I look for music salvation in a time that called for peace.

At the time the notion of true classic rock was open to me. To this day I have found a cure to the rap, hip-hop and pop. It is, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Holly, Elvis, Pink Floyd, The Cars, The Police, Rush, Led Zepplin, The Who, and The Doors. America, you can keep your MTV powered musical society, but in the words of Jim Morrison, I broke on through to the other side.
