I have CoolEditPro, and I think I'm connected properly but there is no sound going anywhere. This is the first time I've tried this as I have some very old music I want to transfer to CD (eventually and that part's easy). What could I be doing wrong?

I don't know.

How are you connecting things?

- RCA Left / Right outputs on the tapedeck to the 1/8" Line-In on the soundcard? You're using 2 X RCA mono male connectors to 1/8" stereo male cable?

Does cooledit see your soundcard in it's configuration/options section?

tape to computer

Thanks for some advice.
I looked but have no idea how to tell whether or not it sees my sound card. I checked devices but it is incomprehensible. Yes RCA cable correctly into deck with single end into microphone input of laptop.

Line-in, not microphone.

Laptop, might complicate things. Sometimes have dual purpose line/mic inputs. Possibly confusing your software. There might be some settings that are adjustable. Double click the speaker icon (bottom right, beside the time) and see what you see.

Another place to check is control panel, multimedia devices.

Thanks. Speaker icon was on mute (I use the machine in class) but deactivated that. I don't know if I have a line in. Oh boy - my kid said this was easy!! Haven't tried control panel yet, but will at a future point. I think I'll go to bed and see what my brain tells me in the morning. Thanks for you help.
