Frickin' Awesome Delay Pedal

What do you all think is a good delay pedal for live use? I an thinking about buying the Boss DD6. I like the online sound clips, and from what I hear Boss is pretty durable. I would mostly be using it to get as many trippy sounds as possible with one new pedal. I'm also looking at the Boss RV3 Digital Reverb. I heard Johhny Greenwood uses that.

I'm pretty sure Johnny Greenwood uses the Line 6 now, and has for a while(used to use a dd5). In fact, the last time O saw them they all had line 6's and were making some weird noises with them.
 
Years ago I came across vintage Boss analog delay pedals in a music store (used). I think they were DE-2 and DE-3 or something like that. They were both exceptionally sweet and beautiful (sounding), but especially the "2".

I bought them around $80 and resold about a year later for over $100 on eBay, so yes, they're pricey. But sound very good. But this is not digital delay, so don't expect to do "sampler" stuff with it, it is more accurately an "echo" pedal with reflections being slightly less bright than the original tone, but that's what gives it its "non-digital", genuine flavor!
 
I had a Boss pedal in with a board of ten effects and a noise gate before they invented the all-in-one processors. That pedal was so cool. I sold the whole package for $1000 to this guy who was collecting vintage stuff when I bought a Digitech processor. Boy do I regret that. I hated that processor from the moment I first plugged in. And my board was already gone... :(

I just realized I never said which pedal I got: the BOSS DD20. I tried out the Line6 delay modeler too. It was OK, but the BOSS had more of the sound I was after. Plus I find each individual setting much more manipulatable live with the BOSS.
 
I guess it all depends on what you want out of a delay pedal. I find that most of the time anything longer than slapback is musically useless in a live situation. I don't want a delay that loops or has 20 seconds of delay. When would you EVER use that?
I've had a Boss DD3 for a while with the Analogman high-cut mod, and it has been wonderful. It's one of those pedals you never even have to think about... it's just there doing it's job flawlessly and it's butt simple to use.
The only useful feature I could see wanting that the DD3 doesn't have would be tap-tempo, but for me it's not an issue since the only time I would use longer delay times would be while recording. 90% of the time I'm just using slapback.

I've heard many people say that they like the DL-4, but I've heard even more complaints about it's durability, plus it's kind of big whereas the DD3 is small.

There is a reason why Boss still makes the DD3.
