I've been trying to find a stretching technique for preparing the muscles in the fretting hand.

I've heard mention that some here use a stretching technique 2-3 minutes before playing, and that this has relieved some of the pain associated with semi-rigorous practicing.

Can someone point me in the right direction??? I can't find anything on guitarnoise, or any other site...

Thanx.

Just go up and down 2 octaves in the major scale, very slowly.

Go chromatic up and down very slowly.

Warm up like that.

best practice for that stuff anyone will suggest is classical music. try some baroque pieces, where u gotta play the bass notes while picking the melody. that should warm u up

There's an old right hand steel guitar warm up excercise that'll will both stretch and improve eye-hand coordination.

With hands flat with thumb extended and keeping your ring and index fingers together as a pair and the same for the ring and pinky, make a 'V'.
Then bring them together
Then, keeping middle and ring fingers together,
Stretch out and make a 'V' with the index and pinky.
Alternate back and forth until you can do it quickly.

I like to use a "1-3-5" stretch to warm up. Starting really high up on the neck (around 12th fret), put your pointer finger on the root note on the low E, your ring finger (or middle if you prefer)two frets up on the A, and your pinky two frets above that on the D. Move down the neck progressively until it feels comfortable to do at the first fret. Hope that helps.
