Fret buzz..Yikes!!

Can you hear the buzzing through the amplifier? With the low action and light strings normally used on electric guitars, it's normal to have some string noise when playing the instrument unamplified. This gets more pronounced if you tune below standard pitch.

The nut doesn't come into play with fret buzzing, but it's possible for the rollers to make an audible rattle.

I guess you mean for fretted notes, but it definately comes into play with open strings.

Yeah and he`s supposedly my friend too..thats why I kept trusting the guy...and on my final return he tried to sell me new pickups by saying my magnets were too strong!! BTW its at least all frets up to the 12th fret on the wound strings...my ear wont tell me on strings 1,2 and 3 but I`m guessing it`s everywhere. I also have an LSR Roller nut.

:laughings: "Your magnets are too strong". If this guy was your mechanic he'd be telling you that your muffler bearings are shot.

I'm not a guitar tech but with all frets buzzing up to 12 my guess is either your action is too low or the truss rod isn't adjusted properly (the neck is too flat) or a combination of the two.

I would say at this point you either need to find a new tech who actualy knows somthing about guitars and how they work and is not just trying to upsell you his entire stock of strat upgrades, or find a good book on guitar repair.

I took on the self setup, uprade and repair route but it took a lot of reading and was quite scary at times when you start making mods to your guitar that could seriously F*** up your guitar if you get them wrong.

However there is something to be said for really knowing and understanding your guitar and it seems that your current "Tech" has already seriously F***ed up your guitar so you don't have a whole lot to loose at this point

Man!! What a great fucking point!!

HAHA!! Thats another thing...I don`t know that much about guitars but I do know enough to know you leave the truss rod alone until you really know what you`re doing. I watched this dude crank 3 full turns in 2 seconds saying he was going to "open the neck all the way" in his last attempt to show me that he knew what he was doing....I hope my neck is`nt warped now.......is it?

As long as he was loosening it, you are most likely OK. Once the tension is off the rod, turning the nut further doesn't do anything.

The other alternative, of course, is that maybe BECAUSE he's your friend he's forcing you to slowly upgrade a guitar he was unimpressed with. :laughings:

12th fret, eh? My gut feeling is your neck probably needs a hair more relief, but what are the open strings like?
