Ok, i am as fresh as they come in terms of home studio recording, mixing, the works !

I have a new PC (its a laptop) and a few instruments, guitars, keyboard, drum machine etc..

I'm interested in recording 4 tracks together to put together some tunes which i'd like to burn to cd.

I'm wondering if anyone can offer me guidence in doing this. I think I might need to get some kind of external soundcard and box that plugs into the USB port of my computer. Plus a four channel mixer, some software, etc....

Am I even close, please help.
thanks in advance.

Yo SlipSlidin' Away: [nice tune]

I'm just going to generalize a bit for you.

You have a PC and you can record with that; however, you do need some type of program in order to do that. There are many and since I use a DAW, I'm not extremely familiar with PC recording. But, my DAW is really a PC with a small screen and all of the programming is contained in a "windows" call up type of environment. I'm just getting into the box and it is great.

If you want to burn a CD you certainly can get some burner to hook into your laptop, I think.

Then, you will need a CD program to set up the CD, burn it, and LASTLY finalize the CD so it will play in "most" CD players.

You can scout around this site and pick up lots of information. And, you need to check out various set-ups and pick the one that looks best to you. Most all have learning curves but the folks on this site will help you once you get your gear and can be specific.

You might want to look into the Quarttro, made by M-Audio.

You won't need an external mixer if you use a program like Cakewalk 9 or Sonar (read:Cake 10). They have a mixer built into the program. ;)

I'm sure others will give you some more advice. :D
