Hey Emeric,
Nice tune. I loved the acoustics and bass. They blended together well. The drums were recorded well, but way to loud. More vocals, too. They sounded great, just not enough of them.
That snare was pretty real sounding. As if I was sitting right next to it. They crash cymbals got to be a bit much. Maybe accent with open high hats or the bell of the ride instead.

drums sound ok....the only mix related problem is see is the vocal getting buried in places (somewhere between 1:30 and 2:00 it starts to fade off).....its seem maybe you had parts where the vocal is meant to sit back a bit so maybe that was what you are after?

with the acoustic tone i may have gone with a fuller tone, at least until the electrics kick in....but thats just a matter of taste, cause yours still sounded great......

what do you have palnned for that ending?...some tasty Emeric leads i hope:cool:

I always like listening to your stuff...mainly because of the drum sound, and the 'realness' you get out of your mixes. plus...your kick and bass always seem to have that 'octave lower' that no one around here seems to get...and it stays nice and tight...no muddyness, or anything bad.

The beginning before the electrics come in, remind me of some old Grand Funk Railroad.... "I'm your captain...." mainly because of the drum sound, the fills etc. But then it takes off in a different direction with the electrics. And just because I said "grand funk"...don't take it the wrong way. I thought some of their[selected] stuff was pretty damn good, considering.....

the vocals are low in volume.

I'd take a tasty lead in the fade out too....eh?

I think it sounds very good. I do agree with Gidge on the acoustic tone. Drums are at a good level. The thud of the kick got to me. Maybe a little fuller sound on the kick also. More of a boom would suit the song better? I also think the toms need a little tweak. Everything sounds great tho man..... nice job!:)

right when I hear the acoustic.. I got happy :)
Sounds great... the song is put together very well

the vocals are a bit quiet in some spots ... but the music makes up

Nice!

Sounds great,nice acoustic tone.
Really well put together song, the vocals were great as usual.

Sounds like you need more instrumentation during the verses though, some nice keys mabey?JMHOP:)
Drums were definitly loud enough.

I liked it,real nice feel to it.
Looking foward to hearing this progress.

Pete

good lord....i like this voice......nice guitar spread.....
..please tell me these arent "programmed"..drums???..what a superb job if they are...!!!...there are a coupla spots where the vox get lost.....and these vox should NEVER be anywhere but right out front!!!....lol......can you come over and show me how to use my crap??.......man.....this is truly excellent....(i smell stars)...

thanks
jamal

Another cool tune emeric.I cant hear anything that needs any drastic fixing.....sounds good.

I can hear a little more of the Supertramp influence on this one among others.

Well constructed tune......now it needs some tasty guitar soloing like JR#97 mentioned!;)

Hey Emeric,

.......very nice tune man. "Classic Emeric" I really like the vocs. ....yeah, little clippish in the heavy guits..... just a touch though. Very nice bass tone. .......I agree about the slightly timid vocal level. I like the drums....... they sound convincing to me:) ....and yeah!, gimme an emeric lead in there.......

..........great song man, cant wait to hear it finished! .....always look forward to your stuff.

Man you got great vox. The drum's are very good...maybe a bit to out front >did you play the kit?< hell they sound fantastic either way, i'll never get drums sounding this good. Your vocals seem to get buried a bit when the overdriven gtr comes in...so dont let that shit happen again;) . Great damn tune emeric, oh yeah i got one coming up in a short, so i'll be looking for a review...so dont slam me as hard as i did you:D

like some have already said, its a little "in ya face" and hot.I just posted one myself that was too hot and clipped out in the conversion. Overall you got a nice wide sound and the drums are really cool.

I really like this piece. I am very impressed at the song.

The mix is good as usual and your voice sounds better ever. New voice channel? new singing technique?

Funk on!

Cool song Emeric! The acoustic and vocals sound great. I don't mind the drums at all, but maybe they're a bit out front, just a bit. And the crash is a bit repetitive.
I never know if these things are going to sound like I want....this reminds me of KingsX, and I have a lot of respect for them. Really nice job :D

being that King's X is one of my favorite bands, I picked up a little Ty Taborish sounding vocal and acoustic..

nice sounding recording as always.. I would like some solos, ahhhh nevermind, I'll add them myself! j/k

seriously though, everything sounds real good over here, except the vocals are too low at times.. your voice should be louder, my voice should be lower.. drums seemed a bit louder than everything else, but I guess that's your style because you always seem to do that.. good sound and song!

Man, I love the way this one enters...the acoustic guitar(s) floating around. Drums and bass excellent. Like others, wish the vox were up a little.
Kids in my classroom (high school) are digging this mucho...I'm pretty sure you're a hero.

Emeric,

Excellent tune as usual. I didn't mind the drums. I thought they were okay where they are, but I have to agree on the vocals being lost in some parts. They seemed fine at the beginning though with the acoustic guit. You've got a nice voice and a real smooth vocal sound going.

Just outa curiosity, who would you say are some of your influences (if any), and do you think they show up in this song?

Twist

The vocs are waaaaay too loud. They're drowning out the accordian. It needs bagpipes.

JR#97: The drums are a touch loud aren't they? As for the cymbals, I agree - after listening today when my high end isn't as fried they are louder than required.

Gidge: Yeah the vocals vary in volume, not intentional in the verse sections. You see, what happens is I'll do one verse complete, and then the next verse complete, both on the same track. These then get bussed to a group fader called 'lead vocals'. What I should do is record them on two seperate tracks so I have more control, but I was a bit lazy yesderday. The acoustic tracks are intended to be redone. Those were a takamine direct, more for scratch tracks when we put the drums down (2 years ago). I intend to redo them with the Guild or some other guitar if I can remember how to play the song. It's tuned DADGBD so it's a bit of a memory game. Lead at the end for sure.

mixmkr: Thanks for the comments. Never thought much about Grand Funk but I suppose it's possible. Only song I know theirs is 'Were an American Band' we come into your town... I'm sure I've heard others though.

soundprizm: Yep guitars are thin sounding, will corrected in Revision B.

JMarcomb: Yeah the vocals do have some problems with levels, I'll do something to fix that. Thanks for checking it out.

muzeman: You got it! There will be piano starting after the first Chorus.

jamal buchet: These are not programmed drums. Yep vocals get lost in spots, seems to be the concensus. Glad you liked it and thanks for listening.

Kramer: Hear Supertramp on this one eh? I guess maybe on some of the vocal harmony stuff, don't know. Thanks!

Guernica: 'Classic Emeric' haha. I guess I have my own sound, as does everyone on the board. One lead coming up. Thanks Guernica!

David: No I didn't play the Drums, Andy Plant did. I suck on drums. I will be sure to check your tune out!

Toki987: Thanks!

CyanJaguar: Same voice channel, MXL 63 into a Mackie. I have been experimenting more angled placement, singing sitting down, standing up that kind a thing! I usually use the Rode NT1 but it's broken. The MXL 63 is hit and miss as well, somedays it works, somedays it don't. Thanks for the comments.

Barometer: Definetly noted the crashes. They may be a little repetitive, but no changing them now. A drop in volume might help. Thanks Barometer.

B.SABBATH: Thanks B.SABBATH. Kings X eh? Never heard of them, I'll have to see if I can snag an mp3 somewhere and check them out.

mkg: Your students dig it eh? Cool, I thought kids only listened to punk or dance music these days! Thanks mkg.

twist: Thanks for the listen. Low vocals noted. As for influences on this tune, I'm really not sure. I'd say there is a bit of Zeppelin in this tune. As for influences in general, Supertramp, The Beatles, Zep, The Who, Alice Cooper, YES etc etc. The classic bands of a bygone day.

pglewis: I thought the accordian was hard to hear for sure, bagpipes? Don't think so! Thanks for the ideas though, I'll run them by the producer.

Thanks for the feedback all.

Emeric,

The drums, though a tad out front, are really nice!
There is nothing like a real kit to an electronic drum guy like me!
Wish I could play them (and had the gear)

The vox are nice but could be brought up a bit once the tune gts going.

I confess I tuned in expecting to hear some chops so I am glad to hear they will be in the next mix! They are part of your sound!

This will be really nice when done!

Joel
