hello
I was cleaning out my grandpa's house and found a pretty old microphone. He was all into recording his journal, and family letters and stuff, and I assume this is the one he used. He died in 1981, so this has got to predate that.

Anyway, it's an AMPEX model 2001. It has a permanantly attached cord, and in the box there's a pouch and a stand for it. But no specs! Does anyone know about AMPEX? theyre not around anymore are they? Do they make good mics? I havent had a chance to try it out yet.

I don't know about this specififc mic but I know Ampex pretty much invented the tape recorder. Ampex tape is now sold as Quantigy. They made all the pro tape recorders and VTRs in the olden days.
