As a newbie here, I'm wondering if there is any useful free software out there and I'm not talking about 30 day demos but actual free software such as Audiograbber etc. Multitracking software would much appreciated etc.

Unfortunately there are many limitations on the free version of that software, i was hoping for no strings attached fully functional software.

Try this site...Fat Rock and Quartz Audio Free and two that are free for sure...some others may be, just click on the different programs and under license it will say freeware if it is free......

You can get Pro Tools free here, but there are some hefty system requirements, but I dont know what kind of system you have...

If I were you I'd beg, borrow, or steal the funds to get the registered N-track....together with the free plug-ins that are all over the net (and we'll help you find those) and Goldwave (which is also a free editor you can download at that same site I put the link to) you can do some serious damage....

Looking for other software also

Trying the best to turn my 4 track compositions into pro sounding stuff. I think i might need compression software also.

free protools

you can get protools free from the digidesign website, search their website for "free protools" it's around 17 meg with the supporting docs and will work with any PC soundcard setup (unlike their production version which requires their hardware)

sorry

Protools itself is around 10 meg (for the PC version anyway), the support docs are 7, and theres another free plug in that's over 20 but you don't need it to run pro tools. I just downloaded it yesterday...............

One limitation of the ProTools free is that it will only do eight tracks at a time. Obviously, you can get round this with partial mixdowns, but perhaps the $40 for n-Track may be a better investment. Certainly it is a good product, with good user support (both here and on the n-track site), and Flavio, the guy who wrote n-Tracks, updates it pretty regularly (I thinks I've had 12 upgrades since I brought it about 10 months ago - you won't get that from anything, including the bigger players). He also takes feature requests, so you can get a bit of input into the functionality of the program.
