Heh heh... He said "free" and "Pro Tools" and "plugins" in the same sentence! :D :D

Pro tools uses a dongle, so i dont think you can even get a free demo of PTs. Dont hold me on that though.

there was something called "Pro Tools Free" a few years back. it sucked balls.

http://www.digidesign.com/ptfree

But it's only available for Mac OS9 or Win98/Me. It's not bad, just very limited. And you have to have a very stable system (kind of an oxymoron with Windows 98!) or it will crash frequently. They have not kept it up to date, so I think it's based on ProTools LE 5.1. (Current PT version is 6.9.) It supports RTAS plugins, and is supplied with a fair number of those. It does not work with any Digi hardware (except maybe with the new ASIO drivers?).

just forget about pro tools. go other directions software wise, there are plenty when you look around.

Yes now there is well sort of , Theres Pro Tools M-Powered, That works with M-Audio Products. Theres a demo for it on PT site but its only for M-Audio products.

well for my birthday my friend bought me ampfarm and i guess he didnt know it needs protools to run it..so thats why am asking...???

Nice friend. The way I see it, you have two options: (1) Get ProTools, or (2) Sell Amp Farm and use the proceeds to buy something that you can use (assuming that you are unable to return Amp Farm for a refund). Have you told your friend yet about your predicament?

Actually Ampfarm is a TDM plug in, so even if you got Protools LE, you still couldn't use it. You'd have to have the 10,000 TDM system to run it. Try to return it, or sell it if they have some crappy policy about no returns on S/W.

shit, and that's a $600 program. what a friggin' cool friend. my friends all complain they can't buy me presents anymore because all I like now is expensive stuff.

 I didn't notice that! Ouch!

yeah hes a rich guy lol maybe he'll buy me a Messa Boogie if i asked :D

Pro Tools M-Powered doesn't even support all of M-Audio's current product line, including most of the Delta series.

Big turn-off.

Also, remember, there's no point in using Pro Tools with non Digidesign or M-Audio hardware--it just won't work. (Or so I understand)
