Hi

I'm looking to create some dance/trance tracks similar to Basshunter/Cascada/Darren Styles and need some sound sets and samples to create these.

Does anyone know where you can download these for free? I've done loads of searches for "free" samples and loops but all the sites seem to want money from you so clearly aren't "free".....

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
I'm using Cubase 5

Google "Free Drum Kit"

Also, a lot of companies offer a small sampling of their catalog to try. You just have to look around their site.

If you download free audio production softwares (even if you don't install them) some come with small starter libraries.

You can sample but I won't get into that.

You can go on creative commons sites and politely contact authors and ask if you can sample.

You can ask a friend to play you out various scales and chords and then sample those and apply effects to get an instrument you can use.

Loads of free effects and vst freeware and shareware.

Use another audio production program to play out an instrument via a VST or something, then render as a wav and import it.

just sample songs you like that aren't dance songs and make your own beats. If you slice songs up enough to where you can't tell what the original source is then I don't think it's copyright infringement. You've probably already got a ton to choose from on your computer.
