Hello

In order to be able to participate in the fun of the latest HR Challenge (see MP3s Board) I downloaded the freebie version of PT. For practice I'm trying to mix Chris Harris's latest tune "Juliet" but, I'm coming up against some barriers

Why does it freeze after I try to EQ anything?

Why can't I select tracks and bounce them?

i assume your computer is fast enough to handle it and not running XP - PT free does not like XP one bit. from my experience PT is a bit more taxing on the system than other programs (i.e cubase sx/vst, sonar, wavelab etc...). as far as not being able to bounce, i don't get that at all. try uninstalling and re-installing. maybe something got jacked in the installation process. if it's individual tracks our groups of tracks you want to bounce, just mute everything you don't want to bounce at that should bounce only the unmuted tracks - maybe you know this already, i'm not sure experienced you are, or how the other programs you use work.

PT Free is a bug ladden nightmare. I used to have the disc and tried it on several different computers....it was buggy on the win98..P133, P266, K7 300 and yes even P4 1.7Ghz.. The number of people that have had PT free actually work without lock ups...are a huge minority. Very dissapointing...How well can the candy sell if the candy causes you to choke?

Sorry. It happens!

Yeah, I was one of those in the minority who got PT Free to work on my PC ... but I'm on a PIII 600 MHz Win 98SE. I bought a Digi 001 in spite of PT Free (yes it worked but was limiting ... I'd worked in PT LE and TDM before so that's why I bought it ...). Sorry PT Free sucks ... but the pay versions are nice IMO.

Is that $60 Ntracks or whatever program still around? If ya got a sound card already (which you must if you were looking at PT Free), this might be a good option.

cheers

If you go to the digi website and follow the advise on how to set PT free up properly you can get it to run without problems.
First thing to do after installing the program is to look for the digidesign and Pro Tools preference files and delete them.
Next thing to do is to allocate sufficient memory to Pro Tools.
If you do those things you're halfway there, it can perform perfectly.
