fostex x 26 problem

i just got a seccond hand fostex x 26 4 track and i've been trying to record some songs on it, but if i use the rewind button, and after press play again, the tape doesn't play anymore, it blocks in the deck.
even my other big tapedeck has problems making it turn afterwards,
anyone knows what might be the reason for this?

best to look inside it, there's probably some little spring that needs shortening to make it pull a bit tighter

but if it's a spring in the fostex deck that would need tightning, why does the tape has problems in my normal tapedeck as well?
