re; vf-16
ok well i'll start off by saying the a/d converter has no place in this picture anymore because thats what the vf-16 does, once data hits the vf-16 it is in digital format.....however, its probably like the old portastudio, good to have though you may never need it again....... secondly keep the mackie! it will boost your pre- production capabilities in a few ways.... for starters, if you have more than eight microphones required for a single take (you would have to have one helluva big band, or a fifty piece drum kit!) then you could mix the additional mics through your mackie into one or two of the inputs on your fostex.....you could also mes with some of the eq's on the mackie for individual room sounds, experiment with them any how, you may also like the sound of the mackie pre amps better than the vf-16.......not only that but it would boost your supply of phantom power, from memory the vf-16 has only two ins with phantom power....... but all in all its best to experiment with intergating the mackie as a pre production tool, especially if you start finging the sounds from the vf-16 becoming stagnant.... pre-production is becoming a dying artform in the wake of digital technology... but, its still the best way to get that honest individual sound..... remember half the fun is getting there! hope this helps
