Hi,

i recently bought a Fostex Model 80. it was working absolutely fine, i did a practice recording and it was great. today i took it to a band practice and when i pressed play or record it started going a thousand miles an hour - it was going faster than fast forward!!!

has anyone encountered this problem before and does anyone know how to fix it???

if its any help earlier today i had to reconnect the brown lead in the plug as it came out its socket - dont know if that has any effect on anything!!!

Thanks for any help you can offer.

James

Check tape threading and if roller engages, as per the above. Also, does the tape stay pinched between the rubber roller and the capstan shaft? If it does but still behaves erratically then I'd inspect the rubber. Is it hard, shiny and slick? If so then there's probably your problem. If it's good then check the pinch roller pressure and you'll need a service manual for that. There could be a number of things going on but I'd check the simple things first. Carefully observe how the pinch roller engages and what happens when it does. Report back.

well i rethreaded the tape tightly, made sure everything was clean, and made sure the spools were on tight and now its working fine, i dont really know what made it work again though cos i did all that at the same time.

thanks for all your help its properly appreciated!

James
