I'm just starting out so i need help! I have a fostex FD-8 multitrack recorder and a Yamaha QY700 sequencer. My objective is to make music on the sequencer which i can then record to the multitrack on different tracks (for example, the bassline to track1, the drums to track2, special effects to track3, the vocal to track7, etc...). That way I can use the mixer to mess around with the different tracks.

So I have two questions concerning this.

1) Is the Fostex FD-8 multitrack recorder preferable to a computer software multitrack recorder, or another brand of hardware multitrack recorder?

2) I can hook the Fostex and Yamaha up with MIDI cables going from Fostex IN to Yamaha OUT, and Fostex OUT to Yamaha IN. Apparently this will set it up so that MTC is transmitted from the Fostex to the Yamaha, and MMC is transmitted from Yamaha to the Fostex. What is the point of this functionality? What kind of added value do I get by doing this?

Ok, so thank you for any help that someone can provide!! i appreciate it.

Though the Fostex FD-8 is a decent machine, it's not a great one.
I don't use any sequencers.

I recommend the Yamaha AW4416 16 track recorder.

Peace,
titan
