Does anyone know a cheap and relable source of compatible hard discs for D80 / 90s? They only recognise ~8Gb, so buying a 40Gb drive is expensive and unnecessary. Also, all the drives specified in the manual are around 1996 vintage and obselete

Matt,

Contact the Fostex distributors for the UK, as there have been one or two software upgrades that allow much larger drives to be used...........they should be well aware of what is applicable for your particular model.

Thanks for the suggestion but I've already tried. Unfortunately their are no upgrades for ths unit. Furthermore it seems the Maxtor drives that Fostex are reccomending don't format in the D80.

EEEEWWWWWW.

I have the D160, so I'm not really familiar with the differences between the D80 and the D90/160 series.

D90 hard drives

I realize this is an old post, but want to add the following for reference...

Check on eBay for older IDE drives. I purchased several a few years ago (new old stock) and they work fine. I even found generic carriers, which worked fine except they protruded a little too far in the front, so the control panel can't be mounted on front of the machine when using them...not a real problem for me since I use the panels detached with an extension cable.

This gave me at least two drives for each D90. The idea was to not have to back-up to a SCSI drive and make it easier to work on different projects by just switching drives.

p.s. Don't forget to format the new drives...
