hi

Here is a sad attempt at a love song......and I got some new gear too....... I would like opinions on any part of this rediculous song.

Thanks for your time if you bothered....

it's called 'for your girl'

B,
Not sure how to interpet the intro, it sounded like you were scribbling in the margins before you started to write.
The groove of the song was magnetic. I wanted to wail along but, I couldn't tell what the hell you were singing. The vox could use some definition and maybe more prominance in the mix. The drums were very cool for the most part (how did you generate them?) but, they came off a little muddy and low in the mix. I dug the first break, it was a soothing calm in the storm. The outro was kinda overkill. It was like admitting that you prefer to masturbate than have a girlfriend<smiles>.
Overall, the song is not ridiculous, just unrefined. I don't think it will get ya laided but (ooooh wait, I hear someone at the bedroom door!!......nevermind, just the dog. I thought the song had worked for a second) it is worth tweeking and keeping. I sounded fun to sing.
I noticed that you use an ebow on one of your songs. Is that a worthwhile investment? Do you like it? What do you mostly use it for?
Is the J Station your "new gear"?

Theron.

Hey Theron,
I played drum pads hooked up to a Roland TD-8.... I love the EBow mainly because I'm not very good and I need all the help I can get in the quest to find new sounds. I found out about it from a Steve Vai song... those 2 songs on the nowhere page have over use of it...I got it as a gift and they payed 70 beans for it.
The new gear is the J-Station and a vocal processor. I basically turned both on and started recording with very little editing. ( and it shows.)

Thanks for the feedback.. I'd rather put it up here and get slaughtered by people I dont know, than hand out C.D.'s and look like an idiot later....

thanks:cool:

Thanks,
Not to tell you where it's at but, don't hide behind effects in relation to your git playing. Grab the crappiest acoustic you have or find on the street and play it for a month, doing all the chords, solos, tricks and licks you can think of, then come back to your own axe and I promise you'll be a better player. You'll sound better with the gadgets too!!

How do you impliment the ebow? I tried to get a soundbite out of the Musiciansfriend.com site and it required "realplayer". I don't allow that sort of nonesence around me. Can you give me a word example of how you used this wierd thing as a tool. I'm close to a purchase. I fear midi and think I might get some miles out of this S.O.B.
Thanks for the endulgence.
Theron.

Well...here I am again Sabb...ready to slam-dunk!!:D

J-station...I'll bet some serious $$ that you're gonna be glad you got it...nice piece of equipment.

ok, ok..the song.
you're an "intro" man...(I'd say after my heart...but I won't!). I like 'em. They're the most fun...eh? fade ins..sound fx's...etc...toooo cool.
Your first 'whammy lick" at 0:30 is toooo cool. It really has the Vai sound to it....plus the chordal bass. Yeah...up the vocals. If I hadn't heard your other stuff, I'd like the vocal effect, but I'm interested in how your vocals would really sound without all the lo-fi effect on them. There is a hint of 'real' vocal sound on this tune...but I'm not sure.
Nice massive gtr sound as expected out of you.
The break at 2:26 is great. I'm getting ready for a Sabbath bridge..but then you put Alvin and the Chipmunks on it:rolleyes: Nice leads at 3:11+...love the whammy...but Alvin is still there...ditch the rodent..
At 3:42, another good seque, and you're good at this....not that it matches anything, or means anything musically...but it just sounds good...so...a means to an end, I suppose.
You get impressive results, recording wise. I'd say ready for the mastering house, and you're done. I take a complete solo, instrumental guitar masterbating CD from you...That'd be nice.

Man your one twisted dude!
This song ROCKS!

I love the way you mix things up,really cool!
I checked out some of your stuff at the Nowhere Forum, you definitly have the touch.

Really big pro sound you have going, but I have to ask, what the heck is an ebow.

I have a J station,really cool for the money.

As usual,
Great stuff,
Pete

theron - appreciate your advice, I hear what your saying...Oddly enough, I'm really a drummer that just couldnt leave well enough alone....As far as the EBow goes, everything I have heard with it sounds similar for the most part....I'm sure in the hands of a real guitar player much more could be done with it..those 3 songs I used it on, basically sound similar, but it's fun....I really do have to play more acoustic though.....thanks man

mixmkr - dude....I was thinking of lowering the vocals, or redoing them.....you think there o.k.?.....I am suprised at this.....I was expecting much more brutality:)......any suggestions on how to make it sound better?.....or should I move on?

muzeman - thanks for your comments....an ebow is a little gadget that you hold against the string instead of a pick, and it gives you infinite sustain....there's 3 songs on the nowhereradio page that I specified the use of an ebow if you want to hear more how it sounds... the J-station seems o.k. so far....I also have a few other processors...the last leads for this song were the Pod Pro....thanks again for the feedback

Here's the gist of the lyrics,

Yes I'm single once again and I'd like to avoid the subject of girlfriends,
How is it you treat yours badly, and she kisses your ass gladly,
This does not seem fair to me,
and she's leaving here with me too,
I am taking your girl,
because you don't know how to treat her,
I will give to her the world,
and I can't let you make her cry again,

Took that pretty girl for granted, now you've used up all your chances,
I'll worship the ground she walks on,
and she'll walk all over me now...

It's nice hear.....with you........are you O.K.?.......is it good for you too?

I'd consider re-doing them. Only listening to a just a handfull of your stuff, you're getting the reputation (with me) of heavily effected vocals. Could an entire CD stand with this?...it might be tough.

suggestions...yeah...ditch the chipmunk! and...more seriously(but I meant that), play up some strong points. I know you say you aren't a guitar player, but your leads are nice....so more riffing between vocal lines, and stuff like that. Keep up with the sonic *textures*, because that's one of your strong points too. Nothing wrong with ABCD song form...but maybe think about a ABCDa, instead...to at least get it to relate a tad better.
And...your vocals have always been to low in volume. That'll never cut it commercially. I mean listen to Ozzie...I mean really listen...his vocals are almost like 50+% of most of his stuff. You never have to strain to hear his singing. If you suck, we'll tell you;)....so until then...TURN THEM UP. I think your stuff really excells, but will reach a potentially smaller audience because it is so weird, to a degree. But then, that may be just the ticket too...ya never know. But, I would go with what you do good. Listen to King Crimson as suggested. You'll like them, and I think bands like them (even old Moody Blues) would make a comeback, imo..with some technical updates, of course. Your stuff is melodic in a way that is pleasing, and that is VERY important. Plus...it's a better kind of music...right?...right!

mixmkr,
thanks again bro...so you DO think I should re-do the vocals....I thought so...it's unfortunate because they might get even worse:eek:

I did the music yesterday and the vocals today, I guess I rushed it..This stuff is pretty wierd......I have a strage sense of humor i guess...

I would never try to 'make it' as they say, or even try to sell my stuff...I'm suprised if I would be able to give it away...:D

as always, thanks for the insite.....

again...I am confused:D

B.SABBATH,

Just thought I'd pass it along,if you go to the Johnson website, you can download an update for the computer software and they have a couple of hundred patches people have made that you can load and use on the J-Station.

And I'll quickly reinforce the urge by MIXMKR to stand tall and up those vox tracks untill proven or beat down otherwise. What the fuck does anyone know about your singing untill you let us hear it. I need a vox to rejoice upon or spit in tempo with. Give the vox a chance.

Theron.

muzeman - thanks a lot for the cool website!:) I didn't even think of that..

theron - I really appreciate the positive words. If I had your voice, then I would probably turn up the vocals, but my voice is not as pleasant... Do you think I should re-do these vocals too? I dont want to send this tune to anyone I know until I've worked out the bugs... I was really thinking of lowering them or re-doing them. thanks for your time bro, the feedback here is quite a great thing....

mixmkr - I'm going to get rid of the chipmunks too I think.... I'm very thankful that you give such detailed and smart insight...It would be less fun without your input.

thanks:cool:
