Ok, so I am still a noob to Cubase, but damn this thing frustrates me! Every time I try to record something quick I forget something stupid and it takes my night trying to figure out what changed. Here is my current problem. If I record with an instrument track I can use an insert, like reverb just fine. But when I set up an audio track and select an insert plugin, Cubase recognizes the vst but it wont apply the effect. What am I doing wrong???? I changed something because this used to work just fine.

Can you attach a screenshot? or several? It will be easier for people to help you if they can see what you're doing. Don't forget to resize it to an internet friendly resolution.

To attach, click on Go Advanced at the bottom right corner of the post dialog, then look for the paper clip icon. The attachment function is always fussy for me, but eventually it will work. And I believe there is no minimum post requirement to attach.

I quit in disgust for the night, but what screenshot would help? if i start a new project and select a vst instrument, and then in the insert i select any plugin that i have, the insert effect works fine. So lets say i lay down a drum track using my keyboard and superior drummer imstrument vst, i can apply my Valhalla reverb to it in the insert iust fine.

But then if i start a new audio track using my mic, when i select the plugin in the insert (say reverb again) the reverb effect wont be applied, its still dry signal even though the plugin and patch show in the insert.

is this a vst bridge kinda problem? all i know is it worked fine yesterday, but i admittedly messed with a few things today.

Well, a screenshot of the audio track settings would be a good start.

AudioChannelSettings.webp

ok i'll post some tomorrow. no ideas on this though? based on your screenie i dont even know where vst audio channel screen is. i'll spend another night looking for that, lol.

the manual has taught me the basics, no doubt, but is poor for troubleshooting. hard to know where to reread in the manual if you dont know what's wrong.

The 'Channel Settings' window is what comes up when you press the 'e' button in the 'Inspector' window. This is where you would insert a plugin.

I got this figured out. Damn monitor button. This is what happens when you try to learn software when you are too tired, lol. No idea why it was on for vst instruments but off for audio tracks, but whatever, my dumbness. Steep learning curve on this one for me, which is frustrating but I am getting there.

Cool. definitely a steep learning curve. As you keep using it, little things like the monitor button will become 2nd nature.

It's when you upgrade to the next version that will throw you for a loop.

Yeah man, it is tough to get down at first, but it will soon almost make sense. At least you will have the basics down soon and then look into further possibilities with the software.

I have a feeling you just didn't have the correct audio track selected when the Channel Settings window was still up for the instrument channel. I have been there man. It takes a while to get used to the workflow of any software. Give it a bit of time. It will become second nature.

Things actually get a bunch easier if you go to a 2 video monitor setup. Less windows to deal with overlapping. I couldn't even imagine using Cubase with only one monitor. I actually use 3 now. Just a thought...

Many of us are here to help you with questions. Just ask. :)

Ohhh, that right there. For any serious work, you gotta have some video screen real estate.

I record my kid's middle school band using a laptop (and your US-1800, Jimmy!!) and it's so weird to see it on one screen. I get lost. ha ha

I bet! I couldn't imagine. It would be like paging someone, and waiting for a call while they dial a rotary phone...

So the 1800 working out for you otherwise?

It's like watching a movie in standard def!!

Yeah, the interface is getting some usage. My kid's band director took some recordings to a conference a couple of weeks ago and the other band directors were asking if I'm available. :) My answer: $50/hr.

Ugh.. I was just given a bushel of VCR kids movies. I feel guilty enough to go online and get the ones Lyrissa likes on DVD. I just can't leave her with yucky stuff...lol

$50 an hour for live recording is not poor IMO unless your kids are involved. Then it should be $100! :)

"Kids involved" get it for free!! I donate my time and resources to my kids' schools. The other schools will have to pay. :D

Hey, I'll PM you an idea on how to handle those kids videos.

really not sure, maybe this has to do with some output preferences ? check your connections

Vigo, you should really read the other posts in each thread before posting. I notice you answering questions after they have already been solved...

Welcome to the site! :)
