for my Mom and Dad (help)

hi

I normally don't make tunes like this but I'm trying to make something for my parents. Do the vocals stink? Will my parents Dad(70) and Mom(56) like it? Does it sound like a metal head trying to play folk? Are the vocals too loud?Any suggestions appreciated. I wanted to keep it mellow and I don't want them to be embaressed to play it for their friends. I can re-sing it, or remix it if needed.

well....you got this up early.....no extra brownie points, however...
we're gonna get bruuuuuuutal!!! ha!

first...your acoustics are too boomy and reverby...both rhy. and the lead.

since this is for your parents....and if they're like mine...

The intro is too long. they wanna hear you sing, RIGHT OFF THE BAT....this is their son...they don't give a hoot if he can play guitar...they wanna hear their son (who doesn't sing) sing.

Step two...turn your vocals up more. They don't care about your groovy recording chops...'they wanna hear you sing!!

Step three...going back to the intro...save your solos, for the solo section...they don't care about your groovy acoustic gtr licks...they wanna hear you sing.

Step four...understand that your parents are only interested in hearing you sing...can you play this live for them too? (not nec. important, however...I guess).

sabb...this kinda sucks...but, if you do it right, your parents will wanna keep you...

questions:
1."mom..this part's for you..." a bass solo?? huh?

2. are your parents musically inclined. I've found that makes a big difference in what/how you present them with stuff.

3. are you wearing clean underware when you recorded this?...in case you get in an accident with your recording...you want clean underware...and is your hair combed?...clean shirt?

well..since I've endured this a couple times, since I'm typing more than planned...
the melody is kinda "forced"...it follows the chord change too much...if you know what I mean. chords go down...vocals go down...

oh, btw...I found that my parents 82, 83...love my hard rock gtr and stuff...they like the beat. As long as the stuff is recorded so you can make out the different instruments, solos, whatever...which usually means...ditch the reverb all together...otherwise, it sounds like mush on their cheapie stereo....at adult volumes.....
 
oh....yeah...so....

erase it...and put the accodian back in...they'll appreciate it more than your groovy string pads!!:p


hey...did I tell you..?....your parents will probably only wanna hear you sing.....

BTW. I write and play songs about my mom and she is just proud that I can kinda strum and sing. A parent should always be happy when thier child makes an effort.

Put that track back up man!

well personally I really like the other tunes you have there...I'm thinkin what comes out of me musically is similar...but only a smidgen as good...it would have been interesting to hear what a different style does for ya...cheers! (mmm green beer)
