Ok so i have a focusrite 2i2 right now hooked up to my AT 4040, i can record fine in audio programs with it. It records mono of course.. So here is my issue.

How do get the focusrite to produce sound in both channels for streaming, or i guess anything?

What program are you using to steam? Does the program have any sound options?

Xsplit and obs. it happens to both. when i do anything else with the same setup, its stereo. i dont get it.

Seems like a limitation of Xsplit. (Didnt' check out obs)

"We do plan to enhance the audio features of XSplit and will be consider an option to force a mono capture by mixing audio from both channels...
But for the moment you can consider a simple manual solution....get a splitter cable"

  • Does the 2i2 have any routing software with it? I know my motu interface has a mixer with 1,3,5,7 panned left by default and 2,4,6,8 panned right by default.
I don't know if that only applies to direct monitoring or actual digital routing, but it'd be worth a look.
  • Programs like soundflower and jack can split and route your signal in the digital domain.
You set up a virtual stereo path and send your mic to it, then you then tell your streaming software to recieve from the virtual stereo path.
  • Alternatively, you could get a little cheapo mixer, although it'd be a shame to need to.
You'd run the mic into channel one and pan it centre, then take the master stereo outputs to line input 1+2 of the 2i2.
Of course, this'd probably be a step down in terms of preamps.
  • The final option is to look for a more versatile streaming app.
I expect this is a pretty common scenario and there's bound to be one out there with a pan knob. ;)

I wouldn't consider a splitter cable...Not for one second.
