Hi folks.
I currently play as a member of our local amateur orchestra, and record our performances on a little Zoom H2 with surprisingly good results. In a couple of months, we're doing a concert in a large hall (Ulster Hall here in Belfast) where the stage is quite high (4' above floor?)
There's a balcony round the hall with railings and a line from one side to the other would be ideal. A lot of years back, in the days of tape, I used a cheap electret mic taped onto nylon cord and it worked fine within the limits of the gear. The Zoom is MUCH better quality, and doesn't need long leads.
Has anyone any ideas as to how I could fly the Zoom in the middle of the hall from a cord? The balcony at the back of the hall is much too far away in what is a pretty resonant hall.
Thanks,

Malcolm

Talk to the TD at the hall. I'm sure it wouldn't be their first one... Or see if they have a pair up already that you can tap into. A lot of halls do.

I'd be afraid someone in the crowd would see the H2 up there, see that it was suspended between two pieces of line, and STEAL THE DARN THING.

Don't worry - the line will be taped securely to the railings of the balcony, and I'll be on stage in sight of it all the time.
Where I'm stuck is wondering how to mount it onto the line so it's the right way up and with some control over the angle i.e. angled slightly down towards the orchestra not into the space behind etc. The angle's probably not that important, but I do want something secure and controllable.
