Wtf is a PRS
I have been using fruity loops 3.? for years now and want to upgrade to one of the FL studios...

does anyone have any words of wisdom or reviews anything like that?

Im looking for something with a bit better drum samples, heavier, chunkier.

Or if someone else can reccomend a better program for whipping up some dark trip hop beats, im all ears.

My homie Def Supreme used FL5 and it dont get much better then his drums.... but I dont know anywho who using FL for their stock drum sounds.... I would say search around for some good drum sounds or get some raw sounds and EQ um to your liking....

yeah, no one really uses the samples that come with it.

i do sometimes, but i change them a bit.

i mostly sample from songs to get good drum sounds, i use acid to sample them then import to fl, does the trick fine for me.

actually, i sample almost everyhting on acid, then bring them over to fl and assign them from there, thats just my technique though.

i have just recently bought a midi keyboard and have been messing around with some of the samples that came with it for strings, organ, piano, etc...
and that is what is lacking wiht the program, i just dont want to spend though $$ on more samples for now.

i am using version 6

Nice. i got version 6 havent installed it yet.

Does 6 have the ability to record audio tracks. Say for instance guitar tracks or bass or anything, along with the typical fruity loop playlist?

I thought version 5 was going ot be able to do that? i might be wrong.

I made the mistake of getting to comfortable on 3.4

Speaking of 3.4 did any one actually use that fruity scratcher turntable thing?

i used to mess w/ the 3.4 Fruity Scratcher. couldn't do much with it. i believe 6 and up (maybe 5 and up) can record audio inputs. FL is becoming (for some) a complete workstation for production and recording. i still chop samples in ReCycle, arrange in Reason, and add FX and mixing w/ drum arrangements in FL, i just like the interface of FL over Reason.

i have 7 XXL now. haven't touched the stock sounds since the 3.xx days. search for free packs or samples - better yet, search on here for kits. i know a Kanye and JDilla kit was just posted a week or so ago.

yo BillyBo iown kno if u've tried it but the FL slicer is way easier then using recyle to reason imo..... u can time stretch with it without affecting pitch and u can pitchshift if u want.... also it slices everything from full beat measures to like 1/8ths or so....... only problem is unlike recycle u cant make ur own chops... or at least I havent found a way yet

i never even ventured to the FL Slicer. is there any way you could give me a tutuorial (video or written) of some simple steps to slice a sample? i used to stretch samples and keep the pitch in Acid, and that was always useful. any help would be appreciated.

i've chopped sample clips before w/ the "default" chops that you can get by right-clicking them in FL. they're kind of cool, but nothing practical, and yeah, i wish you could set them the way you want them.

its a lot of info on youtube about FL slicer but after lookin thru a couple of um I aint see anything that shows the way I do it...... but I dont have a screen recorder program..... if u kno a good demo one let me kno and ill see what i can do

im pretty sure you can record audio on it, though i have never tried it. ill always get the track nearly finished, then import it to acid to record instruments. if i need to change something in the sequencing or samples, ill just go back and change it in fruity, and when im satisfied it goes back to acid to test to the audio tracks.

is a write-up okay to do? just a step-by-step thing to get me started? you can add tweaks or shortcuts you found that worked. i guess just a simple 1-2-3-4 process. please? ;) if not, i'll check YouTube or anywhere else i can google.

actually i found a way to make my own chop points in the slicer instead of using the preset points. it's actually pretty easy to do once you see how it's done. i was clicking away at stuff till it finally worked cuz you would think you should be able to make your own chop points on a plug-in like that. i will make a vid and post it up soon fellas

thanks for the help guys. Ill check out some of the different FL suites.

I know someone else mentioned it here earlier. But can any one else point me in the direction of some free smaple packs. Drums for the most part. I really dont like fruitys stock drum sounds.
