floor tom tracking

Interesting Hans and Sjoko. As an Engineer (stuck here in Detroit. BTW LOL ) I had a drummer teach me to tune drums back in 1996. Of course I dont hang out with drummers, but it is good to hear someone support what he taught me. Tuning the drums to the various notes and even to the key of the song. He even showed me how to slect cymbals based on the overall key of a song. Really cool stuff.

I have since used this technique once to tune a drum kit for a particular song I was producing. The drummer was in shock when I played on the key board what notes I wanted his toms tuned to. Took him a minute but he got them there and the track slammed.

Sjoko, I gotta agree with Hans, tuning a Piano is an Art form. I have been tuning Pianos since I was 12. It was no joke to learn the technique, after that it was learning to make it sing and not just be accurate.

for cheap: pro25, if you need more attack lookat the tuning tutorial Sonixx put up (that is awesome Sonixx! thanks) the bottom head should be tuned flatter for more stick attack on top. I also have never met a drummer that can tune their own kit. I am lucky to have a friend that showed me, and that tutorial is priceless, print it out. As with all drums, the challenge is to point it as near to the center of the head as possible without it receiving a fatal blow. (3 SM57 covers cracked, and counting)

:) okok I give in I agree really (I've just paid 1000 to the "ultimate piano guy" to give the piano its annual treatment, so I'm not the one to say its easy).
But when its in tune - at least I can maintain the tuning for a while. On the other hand..... If I get a good drum tech to come in and set a kit up .... how many times can I rely on a drummer to maintain it throughout a couple of sessions? Hardly ever.

Which, incidentally, reminds me of guitar players.......... Why is it that over the last decade I start sessions, and inevitable find guitars out at different chords? And I have to get a guitar tech come in to set them up properly?? He? he? he?

Now that is another one. LOL I was in session recently, and why Did I Just the lowly engineer have to keep telling the gtr player EVERYTIME his gtr went out of tune.. Hey buddy check that 3rd string... I thin it just went flat again. LOL

It tickles me to find gtr and bass players who come to sessions and tell me yeah My axe is tuned only for me to start the track and look at them cross eyed like yeah right. Blindness is contagious. LOL
