fixing sound recording with distortions

I’ve been tape recording a piano concert using a digital camera (Canon GL1). The audio feed was provided from a mixer from two microphones. Because my headphones were dead (few minutes after I plugged in all the wires) I wasn’t able to hear to audio. At home when I played back the tape I was terrified. The audio track was all over with distortions.
QUESTION: Is it a way to fix a sound recording with distortions?
Thanks,

I wish there was, but there isn't. There may be a few half-hearted things you could attempt, but there's no way you'll get it to sound good.

Compare it to taking a picture of the pianist (with the same digital camera) and the guy in front of you stands up and his head is all you see on the picture. Just as there's no way to take him out of the shot and recover what's behind it, there's really no way to take out the distortion. It's part of the recording.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. :(
