Don't know how I did it, but I uploaded a couple of songs on NoWhereRadio. I don't see much of their type of lyrical content in the songs posted here but that's cool. This is my first attempt in working with mp3's on the internet. I understand why there is a difference in sound quality between the original wave file and the mp3 file on line. But is there anything I should do to the file before encoding to make it sound close to the original?

Go to songs here: http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/?aid=1676/singles

Any help appreciated, thanks.

the best way to ensure the quality of the mp3 is to use a decent encoder and use as high a bitrate as possible, at least 128kbps - 192kbps.....

of course you could also master the mp3 by EQ'ing and such to try to bring it back to .wav quality, adding some high end back, etc.....but that's a crapshoot.......

i see you encoded at 128kbps and it sounds pretty darn good......must have been a decent encoder.....

as far as the song, i listened to Silent Cries and it is pro writing to say the least....the production/mix is top notch......lyrics are very powerful.....

hopefully, noone will show their stupidity by attacking the lyrical content....

Sounds really nice.

You built the song up nicely.

It wouldve been cool in Silent Cries to make the changes more prominent. I wasnt sure when you made a change, then a few notes later.. I was like oh.. theres a change. The baby cry should maybe be farther back in the mix.

Great job! I liked!

firts off i thought the production on this was pretty darn good!..i like the way every thing drops out at the end.."can youuuu hear the silence."...the bass sounds great i thought as well the little lead guitar licks in the middle are way to low i could barely hear them..oh on a personal tatse issue i heard the word"pray"..about a dozen times ..i dont mean the meaning of prayer just the use of the actuall word..but all in all if this is your firstpost well id be pretty proud.

nice work

Hey George, nice mix... everything sits very well. The vocal is nice and out front, as it should be. At about 3:00 on till the end, the lead guitar embellishments could have come up more... A heavy, thought-provoking tune... Good job!:D

Everything sounds coo to me! How'd you get the bass drum sound? What mic and what drum & head.
Thanks,
RF

Geo.....you'd be supprised at some of the lyrical content around here, actually. Your's very good. Nice strong subject matter, and good vocals to spew them out...

My objection to the recordings are that certain patches that seem like the might be best in stereo, are panned hard right and left. ...Items like the synth string patches, the pno patch...etc. Having the guitars split to one side or another works ok FOR ME, but not so much some of the aforementioned tracks. Nice tracking/mixing, otherwise. Two VERY nice tunes. I even liked the nail pounding and the stopped heartbeat on the first one. the thunder was a little blas-say (sp?)....and a better sounding sound effect would have been nice. I like how on the 2nd tune, the synth sounds like a baby crying!:p

Hello,

I listened to "I Saw Love" and loved the overall sound. Nice performances on the git and vocal.

I thought the lead git could have got pushed to center stage for the solo starting around 2:40...then back to its spot afterwords.

Back up vocals were solid. Maybe up a little in volume and maybe more often.

Drums are not my strong point. That being said, they sounded good but, could have used some fills and that reverbed pipe thing on the exit didn't sound like it fit in to me.

Great sound and solid arrangment. Maybe add backing vox to the Amazing Grace part to kinda give it a different color than the rest of the mix.

Nice recording!! Glad you decided to drop by.

Peace,

Theron.

George,
Nice tune and mix.Is that a guitar muting notes in the back-ground or am I hearing things? It would sound really great playing some notes muted.

The piano all the way in the left speaker is kind of distracting to my ear.

The vocal sits really nice but the harmonies could stand to come out a little more and maybe moved away to the side a little ,away from the lead vocal.

Ok,now I hear the guitar over in the left speaker. That guitar might sound cool with a stereo delay trailing off the end of the notes. The babys cry is a little too harsh. It could stand to be back a little farther in the mix and not as prominent as the lead vocal. You wanna hear the baby cry for the effect it has but I dont think it needs to be placed dead center in your face.Maybe a distant cry with some type of reverb would make more of a statement.

ok,Im through(not that I know anything).I really like it.Keep recording.;)

p.s. I didnt read any of the other posts before this so forgive me if this is just a repeat.

Gidge - I used the encoder in Cakewalk Sonar at 128kbps. I could have increased the rate but I didn't know if I should. The 128 was the default setting.

JMarcomb - I agree, I should have put the baby crying father back in the mix. But what can I say, that was my 3 month old Grandson's musical debut. I couldn't help myself. :)

jamal buchet - I felt the same way about the guitar in the mix...... after we had already mastered. Everybody else in the group liked it that way, so I let it go. Hind sight is always 20/20.

caretaker9 - Bet you play lead guitar? They're usually the ones that scold be about the guitar being too far back in the mix. :) But what is strange is that the guy who layed down the guitar track also agreed to where it was at in the mix. I've learned my lesson since then. If it's my song I choose the mix; good, bad, or ugly. :D

rushfan33 - You're gonna hate me when I say this. But on the song "Silent Cries" I played the drums myself. On the 76 black and white keys of my Yamaha EX-5 keyboard. I know you are a drummer and if it helps any, we are now recording everything with a live drummer. In fact the other song "I Saw Love (Barabbas)", has a live drummer. But it is a Roland electronic trap set. We went to electronic due to the different sized places that we play. It gave us betted control over the overall sound. And the drummer didn't have to lay back on the way he normally played due to a small room.

Thanks everyone for your posts.

Listened to both songs.

Great songs and delivery.

My only suggestion would be to raise the volume on the guitar solos. In particular at the end of "I saw Love", where you could develop a stronger contrast between the vocals and guitar solo.

Very professional sounding. On Silent Cries the lead guitar isn't just too far back in the mix....it's virtually non-existant.
The same with I Saw Love....that guitar is nowhere near loud enough. Both Songs are first rate...both in writing and recording. I don't think I cared for the Amazing Grace quote in I Saw Love. I did like the puonding sounds and the heartbeat at the end. You really need a better thunder though. Very nice tunes man. :)

Nice stuff George!

I especially liked the vocals.

I agree with the guitar levels, sounds like mabey it needs some delay to match the keys also?

Good song writing,very nice.
Keep em coming!

Best to you,
Pete

Good voice and well conceived lyrics up the amazing grace bit where it kind of lost it from my perspective, I found the sudden use of such well known lyrics distracting and IMO I think there is a fine line between affective and over dramatic which was stepped over with the hammer sound.
Good general mix, the voice is the most striking element although some of the drumming sounded a bit off at times, not in a big way, but enough to grab attention

I saw love

Nice recording and vocals.. everything sounds really good to me.. I must say that I agree with some of Matt303's comments, I don't think the hammer or the heartbeat was needed.. Although the recording and perfomances are very good, that took away from it for me..

really great job overall!

That kind of says it all for me too.

Hey George;

BluesAxe from over at CMF. I've already reviewed the songs over there and ya know what I think so, I thought that I would give you a welcome.

Glad to hear we are not the only ones using an electronic drum kit. Sharon uses a Yamaha DTExpress set for recording because we have such a small room to record in at the church and we record all of our music tracks Live. She is also going to use them for small venues with us.

Take care, Bro and keep up the great work!

Blessings;

CR
