Peavey ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi everyone,

Please have a listen to the first song I have recorded and mixed on my laptop with Cubase. Comments on any aspect of the song are welcome.

chrisshaeffer.iuma.com

The song is "The Edge of Town."

The song was recorded with a Tascam US-428 to Cubase 5.0r4. Guitars x/y miced with Nady SCM 900's. Vocals with a Groove Tubes 5sm. Bass direct in through an Alesis Studio 24. The alesis pres on all mics. Drums are from the LM-4 plug-in: I did my best.

I go back and forth on the mix, which is why I posted it. I think I have listened to it too much and lost perspective. One day I think it sounds great. The next the vocals are too buried, the next the guitars are too midrangy. Turn it down and it sounds well balanced again... Grrrr!

It leaves me with the haunting feeling that I am overlooking something obvious. How do the pros do this day in and out? After four weeks of intense recording and mixing my ears are fried.

Thanks.
Chris

Anyone? I really need feedback on this. Please??

I won't coment on the mix Chris, while listening on these pc speakers. But I will tell you I enjoyed the song and I thought the vocal peformance was really very good. I thought this track was a step or two ahead above the other song you have there, as for as the recording quality is concerned. Good song,I liked it.

Thanks for the listens, David, and for the comments.

I was pretty sure that I'm getting better at mixing. Its always good to have other ears to bounce that off of, though. ;) Much appreciated.

Anyone have some constructives for the mix? I feel like I'm learning to mix in a vaccuum, here. My friends all say "Sounds cool, dude!" Someone tear it apart, please!!

Thanks a bunch,
Chris

The space around the guitar is very cool, even though it does not sound like any kind of stage, but rather a room.

The doubling of the vocals sounded out of place. The voice would have sounded better without the doubling.

I think the vox sounded too far away. A little bit closer to the listener would have worked better, I think.

Thanks for the listen, Cyan. As I listen to the tune more, I'm inclined to agree: the vocals need some attention. The guitars sound right there, but the voice isn't. I like the backing vox that way, but perhaps over did it on the leads.

Thanks!

OK, finally got real player to act right. I like this song Chris. I've been to your page before, I musta heard your other tune because this one doesn t sound familiar. I wish I would have clicked your other while I was there to see how far you've come.

I like this song a lot. Just like the whole vibe of the tune. I'm streaming at a pretty low speed but it sounds good. The room doesn't bother me in this tune for some reason.

Dig the tune
