Hey guys, I am starting to learn how to edit songs and I was wondering how to accomplish the skipping effect a lot of death metal bands use. Here is an example,

skip to 1:46 and the effect happens with his voice. It's like aghhh-ah-ah-ah-ah. Anyone know how to achieve this? Thanks

It's a manual mute is how I would do it, much like a guitarist would do if they have an on/off switch.

An automated tremolo plugin could also get the job done.

And I know, haha. I didn't want to get into the sub-genres so I just threw out a basic name. I guess they would be more deathcore than anything.

I'm going to start an "Death-Easy Listening" band.

We won't call ourselves anything too extreme, like "Obituary" or "Mortuary".

We'll just go with "Injured".

OK so that's Deathcore huh... I guess I'm getting old cause I would have another name for it

And I like hardcore punk and Slayer, but that genre.. I dunno - the vocals just ruin it for me :(

Heck what's wrong with that Wes?

Strangely enough, Deathcore is influenced heavily by both Hardcore and bands like Slayer. =P Haha. I'm not into vocals like those either though. Full on Death Metal is certainly more my kinda thing.

The vocal is being ducked by the rhythm. So use a ducker.

Haha, this is a funny post. Ok so the genre is probably Post-hardcore, but we could go on and on about that. i wouldn't say death. Job for a cowboy, (Grindcore) is more death.

Vocal Effect, it's actually just the engineer going into the edit windows (pro tools) and taking the waveform and duplicating the word or phrase he wants and then pasting it to a grid of how he want's the effect to sound. hope that helps
