Mixing Engineer
Hi guys!

Been a while since I've posted in here and I wanted to share with you guys how I have progressed (even though most of you guys probably don't remember me lol).

Anyways, here's a song that I did recently with a band that's about 3 hours from where I live. I posted one of their old songs in here a while ago. I know that their is some proformance issues in here, mostly with the drummer's timing (slow on the foot and other problems but I fixed it as much as I could) and lead vocals at the moment (you can hear some autotune on his voice but he will soon fix it).

Besides the above mentioned problems, let me know what you guys think of the mix. I'm not too interested in the music (meaning performance of the artists, song writing or other talents relating to the band) but I am interested in the overall mix. Keep in mind that this project has not been opened since the day it was recorded and is not completely mixed yet, just what I sent the band home with. Thanks in advance! Feels good to be back!

P.S. None of the mics used on this were over 300 dollars and the only preamps that were used were the ones built into my alesis io|26.

My buddy has an Alesis io26 which works pretty solid in spots...

Lead is a bit low but plays through the singing so I'm not sure what I'd do...

Rest is very very good...:D

my only complaint is the toms sound disjointed from the rest of the kit.
they almost sound as if they were recorded at a different time.
they dont seem to have the same "room" as the rest of the kit.

I found the same issue. What I would do is bring the lead up a bit, and where it is playing through the vocal, I would put a volume envelope on that section.

The drum kit should have the same verb on the whole kit. If it is, then there is an issue here that I can't identify.

Nice tune & performance-you already mentioned the drum issue-the drum intro is a bit awkward. For the short solo breaks with the vocal you might pan the solo off center to let it shine through a bit better.
The lead vocal and harmonies are very nice!:)

i think the issue with the toms might be that you're mixing them with upped low frequencies when you eq. maybe just lower the low frequencies.

i think the whole thing sounds good though. vocals sound good and i also agree with everyone about upping the lead guitar or maybe eqing the guitar differently will allow it to cut through better.

sorry for the slow response, internet has been down around here. anyways, i appreciate all the kind words and amazing ears. i listened to this on other systems and i hear the tom issues. what you are actually hearing is replaced toms. i replaced them with poorly chosen samples. thumbs up to the awesom ears! i just got a bunch of new tom samples ive been itchin to try out so heres my chance i suppose haha. the toms that were in the original kit sounded good by themselves but were out of tune with the bass and when i tried eqing them out they sounded way too thin. the lead was a concern, i didnt want to take too much attention away from the vocalist. its very weird that a fraction of a decibel can completely change things. one idea i had was to compress the crap out of it to bring it away from the other guitars but still under the main vocals then automate it so that the volume comes up when theres no vocals. anyways, thanks for the listen. feels really good to be back. a recent trip to cherry beach in toronto kind of made me motivated again so even though this is my full time job its feeling less like work again. :)
