Wasn't sure where to put this so I apologize before hand if this is in the wrong area.

So I'm in the market for a pair of headphones to buy. I'm relatively new to home recording and I am definitely on a budget. I am looking for reference headphones for home recording and music listening on the side. I was looking at a few headphones but I'm getting mixed reviews from the basic user comments that i've been reading so I was hoping you guys have some more info on these that I've been looking at and maybe have some other recommendations.
the ones i had been looking at were:

AKG k141 Studio

Sennheiser HD280 pro

My price range is anything below $200 CAD.

thanks,

Joe

I bet I'll get ripped up for saying this, but I bought a set of headphones for £6.99 at my local store and they do fine for tracking, listening, and mixing reference against my speakers, don't let names and big prices fool you into thinking they're that much better :P

Having said that, obviously you pay a higher price for a higher quality, so if you've got the cash to burn you'd be better off with the higher end.

Sony MDR-7506 are $100, and while i certainly haven't tried every headphone out there, i've yet to hear a better pair until you get into the $200+ range (beyerdynamic makes some great ones for $260).

the sony cans have remarkable bass response, clarity and overall detail. best cans in the price range imo.

May I add the Sennheiser HD25 to your list to consider. I got a pair a few months ago (cost about £97), they sound sweet as. I use them for all sorts, broadcast, recording and general listening.

Yeah, the beyer dynamics DT770 are amazing for 200 bucks IMHO.
