Brand new into the slippery slope of home recording and bought a Yamaha MG10/2 mixer to start messing with. First question is as simple as it gets but I'm going to ask it anyway. The actual hookup protocol...is it mics, guitars, etc. into the mixer, then into the amp or into the amp first, then into the mixer?

Thanks!

instrument/mic...to mixer....to amp...to monitors/recording device/software...

that's the ticket.... ;)

welcome to the site man...That is just the tip of the iceberg though...........good luck man.... :D

When you say amp, do you mean a power amp, or a preamp? Some beginners don't distinguish between them and just call them both amps. Depending on which one it is, it can (and will) change in which order you hook them up.

for recording it would go:

mic/guitar > di box (for direct guitar) preamp > mixer (may contain preamp) > recorder (sound card for pc) > amp/speakers or powered speakers

Thanks, guys. I will need all the luck (and advice) I can get. Been awannabe guitar player for years and am just venturing into this arena, which, obviously, I've never touched. Am anxious and willing to ask the stupid question though so it shouldn't take me long to find more hurdles...
