Hi, i tried to listen to your track but sound cloud is giving an error saying it can't find your track. I think you need to post a new link.

Nothing sounds like it was recorded in the same place - are guitars all DI-ed? The drums have a lot of room and cymbals are too-wide and hissy (one on right specially). Bass is so low it can barely be heard most of the time. Guitar on the left and the vocal are competing for space - some mud there.

Yeah, the guits and vox are kind of muddy together.

That's EZ-drummer, right? Some of the rolls are too-obviously sequenced.

The lead guitar on the right could stand to come down a tad. When it drops out, the mix loses a lot of energy.

+1 for more bass.

Steve and MJB -

Guys, i'm sorry. I thought this dropped off the main page and got lost because I hadn't had a reply for a few days. My mistake! I appreciate both of your feedback and I'm sorry it took so long for me to reply.

I kinda went back on my own to rework it again and I'd appreciate it if you guys took another listen: https://soundcloud.com/jamsickasumpin/stories-mix-july-7-more-bass

MJB - Yes, it's definitely all DI. I don't really have the resources (or time, or space or soundproofing or cash) to do anything else. If I have to do this with mic'd instruments, I'll never get it done.

Steve - yeah it's def Superior Drummer. Although I played it on my Roland kit so it's not loops. I wonder how I would go about making it sound (as you would say) less sequenced?

Again, thanks guys and I'm sorry it took 3 weeks for me to realize it!

Best!
DW

Sounds good so far, guitar is too loud and vocals are too low for my taste. There's some suspended chord you're playing in the verse that just doesn't work for me.

Try putting a room reverb on the DI tracks to give them a sense of air - like a backed off mic. Then add your usual reverb on them to glue it together. Try an Abbey Road reverb setting to clear out the mud.

Drums are fine - they take a while to get used to but will do if you can't "borrow" a live drummer.

Well... i can't uh, SING, so yeah I kinda want to bury the vocals a bit. Yeah I can take the guitar down a bit.

Will try the Room verb. What do you mean by "Abbey Road reverb setting"?
