Again, you should have posted this in the mp3 mixing clinic and what did I tell you about youtube?
Anyway, this is much better than the rap song. The guitar playing is sloppy, but the singing is pretty good. I would have added a little delay to the vox and maybe some (more?) compression. Might be nice if you double-track the guitar to give it some more depth, as long as the player can play it exactly the same twice. nice work, keep it up

Thank you very much.

We recorded her playing guitar and singing all through one mic, at the same time. It was pretty much a live recording.

We are recording a "Studio" Verison this friday, so it should be better quality, and less mistakes.

There will deff. be a little delay added, and im still not so sure about compression. I have audacity, which you guys will probably make fun of, but i was messing with the compression effect and couldnt really figure out exactly what it did.

But anyway, we are going to double mic the acoustic guitar, and she said something about an electric mandalin that she wants to try to add in with it, and then of course the vocals on another track.

Any other tips or pointers?

Other than that I need to stop using youtube? :)

Audacity is a decent program, but it is limiting. Try Reaper instead, it's free to try for as long as you want and only like $60 to buy it. It's quite capable and a lot of people around here swear by it.

Also, you can try to DI that mandolin, but I suspect you'll get better results if you mic it.

Also read about compression some and keep playing with it. Read about and play around with EQ too if you are not already familiar. In fact, read all of this: http://www.tweakheadz.com/guide.htm It's long but you will learn a lot.

You think the mic will do better than DI (Direct input?)?

Just because the sound will be different if we plug it in?

And i will be sure to check out Reaper. Thanks again.

Yes the sound will be very different and unless it's a very expensive mandolin then the pickup in it probably sucks. Try both though and see which sounds best in the mix because an sm57 or whatever you have isn't really ideal either.

Yeah, for some reason I am compelled to keep it alive.

Seen any good movies lately?
