As shown in the video the solution works perfectly. However there is no step by step in the neewer app.

The small steps work perfectly with the box open by quickly clicking on the move button. However with the box closed it's too unstable. If they would add a step option it would be a perfect budget solution.

So it moves the Mic horizontally - what do you mean works with the box open but not closed? BTW IMO micro-movements don’t differentiate the sound much - plus in the days of engineers we used to do the same thing with the 2nd Engineer who would move the mic around - honestly it didn’t do that much - as you get out from the cone center the sound got less treblely - which was sometimes useful - like when stack guitars.

When I'm recording I'm mostly alone
The cab is inside a hushbox. With the box open the remote control works perfectly with the box closed it's missing some input which makes it too unstable to work nicely.

it's fun and handy to be able to change sounds while sitting behind the console when double tracking or if you just want something else.

I did it manually but wanted to try to make it easier with a remote without spending a lot ;)

Frank - while I applaud the technology and concept, I think you are over thinking this to a huge degree. Let's say I want the usual sounds, would that be so much simpler to stick three 57s (or insert your favourite) at each position centre, edge or between maybe, and then sit with three faders and have endless possibilities, rather than motors, movement and video cameras - and the even be able to automate mic swaps inside the box for different sections?

I love the idea though.

Anecdote time.
Years back I was on a soundcraft course and one of the guys was Metallica's Big Mick Hughes - he told a great story of their guitar rig being in a foam lined flightcase, in the dock, backstage. He was getting a sort of clicky thump in time with the music. Traced to a member of the LX crew sitting on the case, totally unaware his boots on the wood were a new sub bass element!

I know i overthink it. But it's fun to experiment.
And we had a heatwave ;)

I have a few mics in the cab normally but at the moment mostly use the slate digital alone with the emulation software to blend. I am thinking about placing one more under an angle on another speaker to blend that one. But the sound of the slate alone is very nice.

This was just something I hoped would work so with reamping it's a fast way to get something different.

I'm not investing in a pro setup ;)

That's very cool, but 1) the guitar in the video should 100% be being tracked live (reamped, I suppose) in this video so you can hear the sweep of the mic as it moves, and 2) I like to use a very bright flashlight up against the grill too, to help see the speaker underneight - you'd have to have very tight back-and-forth tolerances, but placing a small flashlight on a separate boom could work.

The guitar in the video is just background music ;)
Flashlight works like a charm .

I'm normally starting on the dustcab edge but slighty towards the cone. But love to blend tones. So that's why I started the experiment ;) this cab has a wonderful warm tone.

Yeah, I know... but it'd make a REALLY cool demonstration.

Ah so.
Yeah that would be nice.
but i was busy filming it ;)

One day I'll find something that works :)

well done video, watched it twice then saw the "trolley" at the bottom on wheels moving.! ....pretty clever and remote controlled. never seen anything like that.
I suppose to note the sweet-position- you could attach some type of ruler on the grill to note the exact position then open the box and place the mics there for recall?

Im curious of the Hush box...what's your review on that, does it work well?
\

I build it myself and it works but it still leaks a certain amount of sound. But it's good enough for recording.

The idea was to use the dolly to experiment and use a slider with markings as soon as I found the best positions. It's mostly also just having some fun.

when you call it budget, what kind of cash is this remote-dolly mic ?
I still find it pretty interesting and the application is innovative.

You can get a dolly with android support for 75-100. This one was 135.

We also will use it for video so it has an end purpose ;)
