Well. I'm finally about to buy Komplete 8 Ultimate. Minutes away.

I'm realizing that this is the biggest singular purchase I've made to date.

I've certainly spent the amount before. More than that on my drum setup actually. But I pieced it together over time, so it wasn't one big hit.

So tell me, what was your first 4 figure (or higher 3 figure) purchase?
And how did it feel?

:D

Fantom X8. Probably the only thing besides my recording PC that was in the 4 figures when I bought it. Felt great, still love it :)

Honestly I've never spent more than $400 on anything, and that was just my KRK 6's :o

My Korg M3 88. A nice 4 grand hit in 07. I will never regret it. My cousin's band just got signed for a tour and they didn't have a keyboard player. I had other keyboards but nothing that would fit the grade of a tour. Had I not purchased it, I would have never gotten signed with the band. Phew!

I usually try to save as much as I can - I got my rokits and mopads for $300 new. US1800 for $250 factory refurb. you get the point :P- which is why I ended up buying now. I was initially going to wait until March and get 10% off the Crossgrade (since I've got Maschine) at JrrShop. That would've been $675 vs the normal $1000... but then I saw that they no longer have the crossgrade. I was so bummed about having to pay 750 instead of 675. But they told me the crossgrade was discontinued. So I got even more bummed, and scoured the net to find a crossgrade edition at Sweetwater. Snagged while I could because if I was so bummed about spending 675 instead of 750, i wouldve developed clinical depression over having to spend 1000 over 750 :D
I also had to buy a new CPU fan so my system problems will (hopefully) once and for all be fixed before I install it.

$800 in one day  :(

Everyones gotta have GAS sometimes... Nice scores though, hope the fan solves all your problems :)

Biggest single hit: Tascam MSR16S and Tascam M2524 both brand new and just released, From memory about $16,000 Oz (when the Oz $ was about US$0.60, it's $1 Oz to US$1.07 now haha), Second biggest hit Tascam MX2424 with analog card Oz$ 10,000 and that was with a $3000 show discount, the MX had only been released 6 months, I bought a second hand one as a second unit last year for Oz$275 with analog card and 2 x scsi towers.

I never had any regrets about buying any of it, it all has worked well and I had a good studio. Sometimes you just have to jump in and buy stuff or you can wait all your life for the price to go down or for that life time deal to come up. Once you have the gear you can start using it.

Cheers
Alan.

Oh I should add this one, I bought a brand new Tascam M3700 32 channel console for $10,000 when the list price in Oz was $32,000. It was just superseded and was new old stock, did a deal at a trade show with the warehouse. I did not have 2 cents to my name at the time, shock hands on the deal and then ran to the bank to borrow the money against the house, I still have that M3700, the best purchase I ever made.

Feel good about your Komplete 8 Ultimate purchase.

Back in the 80's I was playing keyboards in bands and it seamed like every month something new in keyboard land came out soooo I had to have it.

The biggest purchase for me was back in '92 when I bought my Tascam 488 8 track cassette portastudio. It cost around £1100 {$1740}. I borrowed the money {the last time I ever did} and it took me three years to pay it back. I bought it at this great store in London's West End, Turnkey, which has since closed down. A decade later, it was to play a major role in me going over to the dark side {digital}.
Never regretted it for a moment. I was "advised" not to buy an 8 track cassette recorder but in those days a digital anything {except a watch or clock} was out of the question and I didn't want to go down the reel to reel route. I knew cassettes, was comfortable with them, so......
Up until 2009, almost everything I learned about recording was down to that 488, which I still have. Money well borrowed . I mean spent !
