Firewire Question

I am considering buying custom Laptop with Firewire

My question is
if I have Firewire - Presonus Firepod
Powercore Compact - Firewire device
Firewire external Hard Drive

3 firewire devices.
Do they daisy chain or do I need to buy a Hub?

They should daisychain just fine, but you might need to play with the order you put them in to find out what works best. Some devices work better at the front and some at the back. I have a Motu 828mkII (firewire) and a Sony external firewire DVD burner. If I put the Sony in front of the Motu, I have bad audio dropout problems. If I reverse the order, everything is just fine.

A firewire hub would not make anything any faster. Ultimately, it would still be limited to the final cable that runs into your computer's firewire port.

To ask a few futher questions...

This is sort of a answer to a basic question I had.

But, I was wondering if:

A. Will there be a lack of power for say a bus powered audio interface?
B. Would latency increase?

I am mainly working with soft synths and no actual audio recording.

Any thoughts, experiences?
