So I can't just use an Adaptec PCI firewire card?

are you referring to using an onyx mixer? you need a firewire port on your computer, that is what the adaptec PCI card will get you. you need the mackie firewire card for teh onyx though, which will run you $400+ if it doesn't come with the mixer as some sort of a promotion.

Yea, that's what I found out yesterday. That's pretty ridiculous to call it a FireWire mixer and have it only be FireWire once you dish out the extra $400.

the Mackie Onyx 1220 looks enticing

how many separate tracks can it take in at a time? just a stereo 2 but high quality?

what programs will work with it? i use acid. when i choose the mackie will it record all the tracks separately?

will i have to get something that uses record enable like protools?

and i have firewire ports on my computer, will i need to buy more than the unit to connect it? (besides maybe a firewire cable)

WHOAAAAAA!!

i think the new acid pro 6 will take multitracking and punch ins!!!! i'm really excited...

i need to save up for these two things!

No, 12 tracks (4 mono channels and 4 stereo).

Anything that uses ASIO or WDM drivers. Yes.

Did you not read the rest of the posts? You need the Firewire Option card on top of the Mackie Onyx mixer itself. I got it for free 8 months ago. Apparently now everyone is selling at full price ($399).

i have....i didn't know if they plainly didn't have a fire wired drive and had to buy one for 400, or if that was just not included. seems pretty retarded to advertise it that way. like...hey...we're selling a 16 channel mixer..oh yeah..you have to buy your own preamps...sounded pretty dumb to me, but apparently it really is that dumb. either way, i want one. yay for check engine lights coming on to increase car repairs and my waiting time to get this thing.

Funny stuff man! I've been like that with things many times.
