Damned if I do
Yeah, I've been absent lately due to my recent addiction to TRW, but I need some advice. The PCI Firewire card I'm currently using is dying, and I need a new one. I'd like to get a 4-port card and I'd like any suggestions as to models and places to get one. Thanks!

Newegg.com

Belkin and SIIG make firewire cards with TexasInstruments OHCI-compliant chipsets (which is what you want...).

i've heard the adaptec ones recommended... watch out though some do have the dreaded via chipset...

This one seems like the closest to what I want.

I wouldn't buy a card with an NEC FireWire chipset unless you are experiencing compatibility problems with a TI-based card, and maybe not even then. Try to find one with a TI chipset.

Hmmm, thanks, I'll look some more. Doesn't seem like there's much in the way of PCI cards with more than 2 ports, though.....

I'm guessing by the lack of further replies that this should be a good card. :D

I finally ordered the SIIG card I last posted about, and happened to do so at a good time. It was priced $10 less than before AND there's a $10 rebate that I'll be eligible for. I'll let y'all know how it all pans out.
