Does any one know if the Presonus Firestation is as good as the sales people say it is. I normally would not use eight inputs at a time but in the future I could use that many or more and it seems to be a good option for expantion. I have check out several differnt bulletin boards and there is not much info or use of the firestation out there. I have been researching which unit to buy for a couple of weeks and the local stores I checked keep recommending the Firestation.

Mostly because it is firewire, good preamps and overall good package for the money. I am not sure I understand all of the different configurations you can use but I will probably only use the analog ins ands outs.

If I were you I'd look elswhere. There are other similar products out there that are used by many people so you know what you're getting yourself into.

I Like the firestation

I've been using my firestation for awhile (about 2-3 months),the initial setup isn't the easiest (its not that tough but i do tech support for a living so), I also should let you know that the mlan drivers for it are only available at this time for WinXp if you are using a pc. Ive been very happy with the box,the 2 focusRite pres are pretty nice and over all the package is a pretty good value IMHO I think it is as good as alot of the Motu stuff but the price is much better.. If you decide to get one let me know I can probably help you set it up. I actually found a couple of tweaks to make it run a little smoother..Tech support from presonus is wonderful (i sent them the tweaks and they released them on their web site the next week and emailed to thank me for them :) ) sorry for the long rant I like it your mileage may vary.... Thanks for the reply. I decided on Saturday 01/11 to buy the Firestation. Here it is Monday and I havn't had time to hook it up yet. I did install some extra RAM and a Fire wire card in my computer yesterday. I am kinda new at digital recording so any tips you can give on getting the Firestaton up and running would be appreciated.

Hi bumpy road,
I'm interested in how the Firestation is working for you. I want to get a FireWire audio interface and am thinking of the Firestation.
Thanks.

i was thinking to get one firestation, but i read that mlan need a lot of processor work. after reading a lot and compare with many makes. i decide to buy the RME ADi-8 pro and digi9636.

Firestation DOES use a lot of processor, and will not do all 8 tracks in Cool Edit Pro 2...YET! Right now, you can only do stereo recording in CEP2.

I have been on with tech support almost every day, and they assure me that new drivers will be coming out soon to alleviate this problem. They say it will also help with the install (which is a nightmare and consisted of me returning my fs and getting a new one, and then having to reinstall windows) and the CPU usage.

I hope they are right on this stuff, because the pre's sound gorgeous!

CPU useage??

havent had that problem at all .............you using it with a mac or XP? if you are using it with XP you need to set XP for background services NOT applications. the mLan driver is ran as a daemon (service for windows people) i have had very little if no problems with my firestation. using it with cubase5 vst 32 and have been able to record 8 tracks at the same time no prob. the instruction on how to do that are as follows:
right click my computer
properties;
click Advanced tab;
click the Settings button under performance;
click the Advanced tab ;
make sure processor schreduling is set toBackground Services;
it also enable me to go down to (depending on what i am doing)
a latency in 4-12 ms range

YMMV- lemme know if you need some other help.

Firestation processor usage

I'm also considering purchasing the Firestation for use with my PC laptop. Does anybody know what the minimum specs would be for the firestation? Some folks mentioned that it uses alot of processor resources... I'm running a Dell Pentium III 600mhz and 192meg RAM and just wanted to make sure that this configuration would suffice with decent results for the firestation...I probably won't be recording 8 ins at once anyway, although the option would be nice to have. And with the supposed zero latency monitoring I shouldn't have a problem with lag correct? I'm also looking at the MOTU 828 although I hear it's not so PC-friendly...thought/advice would be appreciated thanks

using firestation

I love the pre's on the firestation, and it is nice being able to record 8 tracks simultaneously ( I do a lot of live recordings ) but my biggest beef is that I cannot yet use Cool Edit Pro with more than 2 tracks. I'm forced to learn cubase to take advantage of the ASIO drivers, which allows you to use 8 inputs. I've had no issues with high CPU usage. I would recommend it...

I am in the same exact boat...love the firestation, but I am getting really pissed off that I can't use cool edit pro with it. Presonus just keeps saying...it will just be a little longer...just a little longer. that was like 3 months ago.

Here's some info that burned my ass...... Talked with tech support at Presonus evidently multiple Firestation's WILL NOT work properly with Windows XP BUT a new revised version that they are starting to work on will. I have to say that i'm VERY disatisfied with this. I purchased it with the information that I could add more units later only to find out that i can't ....... rather upset at this. overall quiality of this unit is great but i feel that it sohuld live up to the Advertised specifications anyone else with me on this?

I am...I really believe there should be some sort of refund or something to thank us for being their Beta testers!
