Hello everyone! I'm new to the forum and pretty new to recording as well. My bandmate and I have been recording our songs for about a year now. I was wondering if I could get any feedback. This song is all guitars and voice overs. We used an AKG P420 to record the guitars and a boss gt-10 for the effects. The voice overs were recorded using a Canon 7d. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like 7 minutes of guitar parts. The voiceovers, well I guess I wouldn't call em voiceovers, just background noise, like someone recorded snippets of laughing and random talking (and gunshots?) at a party or something, then just panning them all over the place in the mix.. When they stopped I was happy about that. The guitars sound nice, the playing is good, they're spread out well, the guitar mix is pretty good. But there's no change up in the song anywhere, so it gets kinda old far before 7 minutes are up.

Cool! Thanks for the input. It was our attempt at writing some post-rock. I'm more concerned of the tracking and the mixing. I was just hoping I was on the right track...hmm pun.

It's not the background noise itself, now that I think about it. It's cuz like the intro one is panned 100% L, it sounds really unbalanced, esp with headphones on! I'd keep a single track centered. You could experiment with 2 tracks of different takes and panning a pair, like double tracking guitars or something.

Ah yeah I see what you mean. You are right. The noises are on two separate tracks that are panned hard left and hard right. I'll give that a shot. Thanks a bunch for the input. I was a bit apprehensive to post this here haha.

I agree with suprstar; less panning of the background noises would be better. Especially in the beginning, like suprstar pointed out. It's panned all the way to the left and I think it would be much better if it were in the middle. I also think the background stuff is too loud at times, so perhaps taking the volume down a bit would make it easier to listen to. If you are going to pan things I would suggest not panning so much. 30% to 40% is usually a good start. Then listen to it, see how you like it, and adjust as necessary.

I like post-rock and I think this is a good track. The guitar sounds good, so it's really just all the background stuff you might wanna keep working on until you get a better sound out of it. :)
