Hi guys! I´m really happy with my Firepod, but i´m plannig to use the nice Avalon M5... so, i would like to know wich is the best way to use external pres with the FP... using the spdif i would be able just to send a stereo signal, right?
I guess that sometime, i would like to use the FP as my interface, but record my stuff with some real pres...
Any idea?
Thanks!

I did a recording using the firpod and a number of external pres late last year. One of the external pres was a M5. You need to understand that the m5 is just a pre-amp and not a A/D converter. Hence, you can not use the Spdif inputs of the firepod. Simply, use the line level inputs (trs 1/4 inch). For the first two channels, they are found around the back (the 1/4 inch on the frount still go through the pre amps of the firepod.) Channel 3-8, to by-pass the presonus pre-amps, just plug in the frount using 1/4 inch socket!

The presonus Pres are very good but for preofessional release, if you have good external pres like avalone, always use them. The pres on the presonus are good on overheads (things that you don't want to colour the sound that much.) In a way, the M5 is very similar in sound to the presonus pre's. I would recomend getting a old UK box similar that will give you versitility in sound!
