check it out guys. It's been soooo long since I've posted anything here. This is a rough mix- no plug in's, just a smigen of the track EQ in vegas and some dither.

This is good stuff. Not your standard boring guitar progressions. Right on James HE. Good sound for a rough mix. Nice guitar work, and your vocals are great, suit the style very well. Good bass playing, geez I can't find much to be critical on here. Well one thing, and it's not that big a deal really, but it would be big deal to retrack... :) The drums are great and everything, but I think the punches at the start could be a bit more relaxed, but tighter if you know what i mean. Mainly from 38s to where the beat comes in. The punch sounds rushed. But maybe this is what you wanted. After that its fine. So it would be quite easy to punch in.

Other than that... very nice.

Wow James!

Wow James...big difference between this and the single mic shed days. This sounds great. I agree with what Emeric said about the drums, but they sound great (particularly the snare). I like the backing vocals...they remind me of Steely Dan a little. I noticed that there seemed to be hardly any processing on the tune. That's not a criticism, it sounds really good the way it is, real natural and earthy. Great job James, you keep improving every mix it seems.

Yes Emeric you are right on.
The problems with the beginning are timing issues. We tried to track with a click, but it felt wrong, cuz I come in at like 70 bpm and it ends up at like 100 by the time it kicks into the 2nd verse. So what we did was to laydown a scratch guitar part. Well matching one "loose" performance with another "loose" performance is quite tricky (as I am learning all over this CD!!) I was thinking that maybe I could nudge those hits arond just a little in software, but I dunno- you think it's worth it?

I'm working on another mix which I'll post soon... hey this one will actually have some reverb... :)

Thanks CMiller! yeah this stuff is a definite improvement- that's what happens when you finally are able to chuck the four track! :D

Wish i could have a rough mix that sounded that smooth.....the under processed sound is wonderful/vocals excellent.....dammit....long songs usually make me freak, but not this one...dammit.....tune still in head....must take....medicine....gibs

ha! gibs you think this is long?? geez it's the shortest song we're putting on this CD. 5 songs and it's going to be 40 minutes!

I'm working on the "processed" mix as we speak.. a few days and then you'll all be able to tell me that the rough was WAY better!! :D

Leave the reverb alone.
That was wonderful AS IS.
I don't know how I can compare this to Doors material when they were pretty big on reverb.
So I'll leave it as a compliment and a thought experiment.
