Not bad. The distorted rythem guitar is a bit too bass oriented. Vocals could use some more compression and a bit more 5k.

Ya get a bit of sizzle in the rythem guit and vocals and it will brighten up the mix. Look into the vox compression too.

Pretty cool stuff.

Sounds pretty good...could use a bit of polish to tighten everything up, but it's not bad at all....and is a fun listen. Maybe compress the entire mix to make it sound a bit more cohesive...don't go overboard, just mess with it in small incriments. The basics are there, and just could use a bit of tweaking. Some nice playing, and good sounds.

Nits during first listen, and remember everything that follows comes with an "IMO"....

The distorted guitar in the intro before the bass comes in should be a little bit louder...

The drums are pretty well balanced but the overheads should come up and maybe need a little bump in the 7 to 8 kHz range if the volume boost doesn't do enough to give the cymbals a little more clarity.

But it's a rocking song, for sure. I have to d/l this one for my personal "HR buds compilation!"

Its got a great rocker feel to it and has a nice drive to it too, but I agree with Freudian that it need another guitar part with more high end-a Strat or Tele mixed in and panned opposite of the Goddess would sound really cool on there.
A bit of compression would do some good as well, the real drums sound very fine on there, I wish I had a room I could bring a drummer into in my studio space....Congrats on a cool song Nicole!

thanks for the comments. the guitars and bass were recorded direct so i will eventually be re recording them by micing my amps. i've been doing that ever since i got my sm57 and it's getting me a really good guitar sound. so i might get that sizzle you're talking about.

thanks Dogman :) it should get a bit shinier and polished when i rerecord the guitars and bass. thanks for listening :)

And I mean the 2nd guitar in the intro, not the one that starts off.

The breakdown before the guitar solo is crying out for some keys......

IMO! ;)

you're right about the guitar, i was thinking the drums were too loud in that part but it makes more sense to turn the guitar up than turn the drums down :)

and i was thinking the same thing about the overheads. i don't think the cymbals are heard quite enough. i'll take care of that in the next mix :)

thanks for the comments and thans for listening :)

thanks for the comments Tony. i don't have a strat or a tele, but i might double the rhythm guitar part with kim's nighthawk on the bridge humbucker pickup as i've done on a couple other songs lately. it adds a bit of high end to the guitar sound.

thanks for listening :)

i'd be afraid of putting anything else in that part. the vocal chorus which is largely responsible for the tension in that part would not be well heard if too much stuff were added there.

Hey that's a pretty good song. Has a sort of Patti Smith feel to it. Nice. :)

I pretty much agree with everyone else's comments on the mix. It's a little dark and "low-fi". That's not a big deal though. It can be fixed. From what I can tell, and maybe I'm wrong, but the drum tracks seem to be tracked very well with a nice sounding kit and a good performance. Are they real? Maybe samples? They're just not mixed/processed quite right. That's just a matter of twisting knobs and pushing buttons until you get em shined up and popping. As for the guitars, it's hard to escape that "fuzzy" guitar sound when recording direct. Nothing compares to an actual mic in front of an actual speaker.

I only got to hear the song once, so this is just what I noticed on the first go-round. I kept getting an error message while trying to listen again. I didn't pay too much attention to the lyrics or vocals. I'll try again later.

Nice song though. Keep at it. It's gonna be really good once you get it all sorted out. :)

thanks for the comments Greg. yes the drums are real. a guy named ajax micke from holland offered free drum tracks in the songwriters forum so i took him up on the offer. they're tracked a bit hot but they're tracked well. the kit is a high end tama from what i can tell. i really don't know what i'm doing when it comes to mixing drums down so i'll end up having someone else mix it for my album once all the tracks are shiny.

thanks for the comments and thanks for listening :)
